With warmer weather, we are finding more students are parking in the lot without permits. Permits are sold out for trimester 3. Students will receive tickets if they are parked in the lot without a permit. All fines and fees, including these tickets, must be paid off each school year. Students that are Seniors will not be able to receive their cap and gown without clearance of the fines and fees accrued during their high school career.
Robotics Team Takes 7th!
This was the 11th season that the Andover High School Robotics Team has competed at the First Robotics Regional Competition. The competition is: "under strict rules, limited time and resources, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It's as close to real-world engineering as a student can get".
The final competition team named the Butler Bots consisted of a genius 7 students, 2 coaches and 1 mentor group that competed on March 30-April 1 at the U of M Williams Arena. The team knew that this year was a good year even though they had lost a few student members throughout the season. They felt like everything was working well when they arrived at the event but had not yet grasped the magnitude of their hard work until practice matches began on the Thursday before the games started. Their Robot named "Chop Sticks" was performing almost flawlessly from the start with all mechanics and programming working well. They soon realized that this year was going to be special and that it was. Chop Sticks was strong, durable and precise with its 91 lb student welded Aluminum Mechanics and Multiple Electronic Motors, Gears, Constrollers, and Sensors. During the competition, the team competed against 61 other teams throughout Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota and the Czech Republic. They performed very well, never dropping out of the Top 10 and after the Finals finished 7th overall.
Having a Robot that was "Solid" from start to finish was the key to our success and everyone on the team made that happen including the support and sponsorship from nVent, Medtronic, ICU Medical and DSTI. The students on this years team did something that we had never had never done before which says everything about their dedication, team work, and skill sets. As coach, I could not be more proud of these kids. They will change the world!
