In the Classroom

We are finishing up our non-fiction text unit and publishing this coming week. I have been impressed with their knowledge, as they have been writing a "feature article" on something they are an expert on. All of my students have been extremely enthusiastic about this unit and have worked hard. We are all excited about their final products. Next we will move into persuasive writing.

In Social Studies, we have moved into a new unit on Immigration and the Industrial Revolution. Please encourage your child to read and review notes daily. They should be able to explain the content like a story.

Last Friday was our first DFES Environmental Sciences fair. I was so proud of every one of my groups! I was impressed with their knowledge on their project and their ability to explain the process of experimenting, analyzing results and drawing conclusions. This was an amazing experience for all of fifth grade! Congratulations to the "Dish Soap Girls" and the "Plant Boys" for moving on to the District Science fair at the end of the month!

We are wrapping up our unit on division with a two digit divisor.
I am planning to have a unit test on Thursday, January 22.

Our next unit will be multiplying and dividing decimals.

We will be hosting an environmental magnet fair at DFES next Tuesday from 6:30-8:00.

We encourage you all to come out and check out what we have been doing to support our magnet's theme this year.

Additionally. I would love to have some of my students come to help me demonstrate some of what we have been learning this year. If your child is able to attend, please let me know asap. I will be giving extra credit for participation!
