The Copeland PTO Newsletter

President's Corner by Cree Sanford

It is hard to believe how quickly this school year is passing! In the next newsletter, we will be publishing a list of open chairman positions for the 2018-2019 school year. Where do your interests lie? Think about it! If you already have something in mind, please let me know by email or phone. Copeland is very proud of their volunteers and all that they/we do! We are such a successful school because of our wonderful volunteers like YOU!!!

Our Daddy/Daughter Masquerade Ball was a success!! We had smiling daddy’s and daughters for days!!! We also profited $4,428!! Thank you to Karen Thomas and her amazing team for bringing this event to life!! Special thank you to our teaching staff and administrators for donating sweets and volunteering as well! It was definitely a night the girls and dads will remember!

We are always busy here at Copeland…On this Friday, March 2nd we will have our Boosterthon Fun Run! The kids are super excited about this event! This will be our last major fundraiser for this school year. With this fundraiser, we hope to raise funds for updated technology to be used in the classroom such as laptops, iPad’s, and Google Expedition (Check it out- https://youtu.be/mlYJdZeA9w4). We may need a few extra hands the day of the run so let your HRC know if you’d like to help out.

Thanks again for all that you do to make our school so fabulous! We could not do any of this with you! As always feel free to contact me anytime at cree410@yahoo.com .

The Garden by Tracy Reynolds

All the 3rd graders got a free Bonnie cabbage plant. This is part of the Bonnie cabbage contest. The gardener sent home instruction on how to grow their cabbage and enter the contest. They are going to start using plant based scrapes to create compost. The compost in the compost bend now, is going to be used to grow potatoes. The 3rd graders are planting potatoes this week. Thankfully the garden has not needed to be watered , because of the rain. When the weather gets warmer and dryer , we will need help watering the garden.

Volunteer Opportunities

We need volunteers and helpers year round and there are plenty of opportunities. You can learn about SRC (Science Resource Center), which is an excellent resource not only for the students, but for parents too. If you are able to volunteer for this, I promise you will learn something too! Please contact our SRC Chair Selina Sauceda at selina.sauceda@gmail.com for more info.

The library always needs volunteers, as do art and music. Please let me know if you want more information.

If you have any questions or comments regarding our VIPS program or would like to volunteer, please contact me at 713-829-0638 or mmcgah@gmail.com.
