Growing Successful Learners - Whakatipu Mātauranga
Matt's Message
Kia Ora Whānau
It's hard to believe that we are at the end of another term of school. Thankfully this term has felt fairly 'normal' when it comes to previous terms with interruptions with COVID. It has not been all plain sailing with an increase towards the end of the term with sickness and flu increasing across the school.
As we reflect on the term, it has been great to think about the events and opportunities that have been offered to our children along with having you as our whānau back in the school too. From funky fun days and the cross country through to a beautiful Matariki evening held here at school and the Motiti team trip to Hobbiton.
I would like to thank those parents who supported both our trips and the events over the term. It has certainly been awesome to re-connect with parents and whānau this term after a long time without.
We are certainly looking forward to term three and the learning opportunities that we have planned around the school. This will include the Motiti team heading off to camp in weeks 8 and 9.
While I know the holidays can be a juggle at times, I hope that you can all enjoy some well deserved time with your tamariki.
We look forward to connecting with you during term 3.
Ngā mihi
Matt
We are having a number of our tamariki coming to school on their bikes and scooters without helmets.
While it is not the law to have to wear a helmet on a scooter, we would prefer your children did for their safety,

Board of Trustees - July Whakahou (Update)
Tēnā koutou katoa,
Here is the monthly whakahou (update) in the school newsletter, so that you stay more informed of the progress we are making on the Board of Trustees. These are some of the brief points from the June meeting:
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
STRATEGIC AIMS:
Resiliene Project: The School would like to introduce the Resilience Project in 2023, as it aligns with the NZ Curriculum and supports teaching students positive mental health strategies. The cost for this programme is $19 per student. The Board supports this, especially given the current climate.
Identity Language & Culture: Principal explained the story of the school identity, logo, vision, language, culture, values and beliefs. BOT pleased with the progress so far.
STAFFING:
Team Reflection Report: Board liked the new format of reporting from the Pod/Team Leaders and liked that challenges were also highlighted alongside the positives.
PROPERTY, REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE:
Hall Renovations: BOT were informed that the Hall Toilets have black mould and have been closed. Awaiting an update regarding the repairs from the Project Manager and Ministry of Education.
Office Car Park: It was decided that due to Health and Safety, we remove the front sliding gate and re-align the fencing to keep everyone safe. Two visitor car parks will be introduced (that will require signing in for at the office).
Board Project Planning: After additional information and quotes had been secured, the Board agreed to invest a further $290k into the school's physical environments and learning resources as planned.
Grassy Knoll Playground: BOT discussed the initial plans and agreed on the company, Playgrounds Creations out of the three options. They will now work on the detailed plans for presentation.
GENERAL BUSINESS:
Board Election Planning: Four parents attended the board meeting to find out about becoming a Board Member prior to the elections in September. The BOT approved Rochelle Goninon as the Returning Officer for the election (she has done this previously).
Before & After School Care - The board is investigating the provision of before and after school care on the school site.
As always, the Board welcomes your feedback on our school’s governance. Please contact the Board Chairperson on botchairperson@papamoa.school.nz with any queries.
Ngā mihi,
Sarah Webb.
