Dear Paularino Families,

Today students received an envelope for our Charleston Wrap fundraiser. All money raised will support the 6th grade Science Camp fund which will help send our 6th graders to camp - and future 6th graders! Our fundraiser is open from September 16 - October 7.

A Flyer has gone home to nominate parents for the School Site Council. This year we are looking for four or more parents to participate as School Site Council members. The commitment is one year with four virtual meetings to attend. We are also looking for parent nominations for English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) members. Please return the form to the front office with your nomination before Friday September 23.

Please consider supporting the PTA with a $13 membership. Your membership will support student field trip admission, field trip transportation, Scholastic News for each student, Walk Through assemblies for upper grades, and site assemblies. Flyers went home today to support the PTA - you can send cash or a check (payable to Paularino PTA) to the front office or PTA membership can be purchased online here: https://jointotem.com/ca/costa-mesa/paularino-pta. The top two classes with the highest membership by September 30 will get a popsicle party.

Please join us on Wednesday September 21 for Family Game Night in the Paularino MPR 5:15 PM.

Flyers will go home next week to order your pizza and Bingo/Loteria cards.

$10 for 2 slices of cheese or pepperoni pizza, 2 bottles of water, 2 Bingo Cards and 2 Loteria Cards. Pre-order with cash or check in the front office. Pre-order with card when the PTA table is on campus. Can also be purchased at the event. Extra pizza, water, and cards can be purchased at the event.

Our Paularino PTA has been hard at work to offer Spirit Wear this year. Each student went home with a yellow flyer to purchase Spirit Wear. If you would like to purchase items you can pre-order them by credit card (be on the lookout for the PTA table at dismissal in the next few weeks), a check payable to Paularino PTA, or cash. Orders need to be turned in by September 23. Please see image below for samples.

This morning Gnarly, the mascot for our local USL Pro Soccer team Orange Soccer Club, stopped by flag deck to tell us about a fun school event on Saturday October 1. On 10/1 Paularino Elementary will be walking on the field and taking pictures at their final home game. You can purchase tickets to the game from the PTA at a special Paularino price of $10. Email the PTA at paularinopantherspta@gmail.com or call PTA Programs VP Jeremy Cook at 714-988-3422 to purchase tickets. They will also be available in person at next week's open house.

Grades TK-6 Daily Schedule:

7:35 AM - Gates Open

8:05 AM - School Starts

2:20 PM Dismissal Monday through Friday

Masks are optional for all. Good hand hygiene (sanitizer/washing) will be practiced daily.

Arrival procedures

• Please park and walk your child to the front gates or pull through the Paularino parking lot at the front of the school.

• Bus riders and walkers will use the side gate on Coolidge.

• All parents/guardians will remain in their cars while students unload and walk through the gates.

• Free breakfast is served daily and available for all students.

• Students who arrive after 8:05 am will be marked tardy.

• Due to safety protocols, parents are not allowed through the gates except for special events or Flag Deck.

Recess

• Supervision is provided to support and reinforce recess and lunch expectations.

Lunch

• Free school lunch is available for all students. If your child does not want a school lunch, please pack them a lunch.

Dismissal

• Monday through Friday dismissal is 2:20 PM.

• Students are released outside the front gates, primary in front of the MPR and upper by the marquee. Bus riders and walkers will use the side gate on Coolidge.

• All parents remain in their cars.

Attendance

• If your child is feeling ill or has symptoms such as cough, stomachache, fever or chills please keep them home and consult your physician.

• If your child will be absent, please call the attendance line at (714) 424-4742 and leave a message with your name, your child's name, reason for absence, and a phone number.

Dress code

• Please send your student to school with appropriate clothes and shoes for the school day. Per our dress code, flip flops are not permitted on campus and are a safety concern when students play at recess and lunch.

• During warmer weather please make sure your child is wearing school appropriate clothing.

• Please send your student with a reusable water bottle (no glass). We have bottle filling stations around campus.

Cell Phones and Smart Watches:

• Cell phones and smart watches are not to be used on campus. Students can keep them in their backpack during the day or give them to their teacher for safe keeping. If a student is found using a cell phone during school it will be taken to the office and a parent or guardian will need to pick it up.

Birthdays and Celebrations:

• Please do not distribute birthday party invitations at school.
• If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday during the school day you can send a healthy snack such as apple sauce, fruit, sugar free popsicles, fruit snacks, fruit roll ups, Go-Gurt, and individually wrapped crackers. Items not allowed: cupcakes, cakes, lunch replacements (pizza) and treat bags. Thank you for understanding.

Our Friday morning Flag Deck ceremony is a place for the whole school to gather, celebrate student accomplishments, hear school announcements, and build school spirit. If you would like to come to our Flag Deck celebration they are every Friday morning - weather permitting. Parents will wait outside the front office gate until 8:05 AM at the start of school. Once the bell rings parents are welcome to stand in the VIP section, Very Important Parents. At the conclusion of Flag Deck parents exit through the front gate. There are no requirements for masking, vaccination or negative tests when attending Flag Deck. As a parent observer we just ask you stay in the VIP section.

When dropping off or picking up your student please use the sidewalk for the safety of all students, staff, and parents.

When in the car line please remain in your car. This will help the car line to move faster with children getting in and out on their own. A staff member will be there to assist if needed. Please use kindness and patience when waiting for your student.

If walking across Paularino Ave please wait for the crossing guard to assist in the crosswalk. This is for the safety of all walkers and cars.

In an effort to continue to provide accurate and up-to-date information related to COVID-19 in our schools, a District dashboard was created that identifies the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases by school. The number listed includes current positive cases of staff and/or students within the past 14-day period. This information is updated daily and is located on the District webpage for COVID-19 Resources for 2021-2022.

There is no need to be alarmed or wonder if your child has been exposed when you see a positive case at your child’s school site. The District follows protocols which includes collaboration with the Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA). In the event of a positive case in our schools, as appropriate and under the direction of the OCHCA, the school nurse, principal, or District staff will notify any staff or students who are considered to be a close contact (less than 6 feet apart for more than 15 minutes) with a COVID-19 positive person. Each case is unique and in some cases notification to low risk contacts may be necessary, based on the direction from the OCHCA. If you do not receive notification regarding a COVID-19 case, we do not believe your child has been exposed. Due to privacy laws, we cannot provide names or any other information about the people who test positive or those who have been in close contact.
