Shel Silverstein
Shel Silverstein was born in Chicago, IllIons on September 25, 1930 to Nathan and Helen Silverstein. At the age of twelve he started to draw and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1948. Following his artistic aspirations he went to study at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts (now know as Art Institute of Chicago) the later to Roosevelt university. He soon dropped out of college and joined the military in September 1953. He worked in many American bases, including Japan and Korea. During his military services he drew cartoons and were published in a magazine called 'pacific Stars and Stripes '. Coming back to Chicago, Silverstein started submitting his cartoons to various magazines. Soon after that he was hired by 'playboy' as one of the leading cartoonist and was sent around the world to create an illustrative travel journal. Shel was very passionate about music and actual wrote a number of hit songs . Some of his famous hits are " a boy named sue", "one's on the way" and many more.

I think this poet should be recognized because he is very talented and has very funny poems and a very funny sense of humor.
