READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK!
Thank you to all of the special guests who joined us this week to celebrate reading!
Author ROB BUYEA of the Mr. Terupt series joined GWS for Read Across America week. He spoke to fourth and fifth graders on the writing process and included how his 4th grade teaching experiences became favorite scenes in his novels. Following the group talk, he ran writing sessions with each of the fifth grade classes. Students wrote a point of view piece and shared their interpretations of Buyea’s characters with the author. We are all thrilled to hear the author is currently working on the fourth book, Good-bye Mr. Terupt which will hopefully be ready for publication in two years.
This program was sponsored by the GWS PTO and supported in part by a grant from the Marshfield cultural council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
REMINDERS FOR PARENTS
ABSENCES: Please call in your child’s absence each day before 9:30 AM. If we do not receive a call, we will try to reach the parent or guardian with the Connect Ed System to account for the child. **Please be sure to contact the front office, even if you have reached out to your child's teacher.**
PUNCTUALITY: The school day begins at 8:50 AM. All students reporting late to school are required to be accompanied by a parent/guardian to the office to check in before going to his/her classroom.
SCHOOL DISMISSAL: Please document all dismissal changes with a written note to your child’s homeroom teacher. The school must hear directly from a parent/guardian. Please remember that phone calls during the school day cause interruptions to the classroom and may lead to confusion at the end of the day.
NOTES TO SCHOOL: Please be sure to include your child’s first and last name plus homeroom teacher’s name on all correspondence regarding dismissal changes and absences.
In accordance with Chapter 76, Section I of Massachusetts General Law, Marshfield Public Schools is required to notify the parent/guardian of a student who has reached five (5) unexcused absences in a school year. Parents/Guardians will be notified by a letter when five (5) unexcused absences have been reached.
In the event that a student exceeds ten (10) unexcused absences, a parent/guardian is required to meet with an administrator to discuss his/her child’s attendance issues.
The Marshfield Public School District offers integrated preschool classes serving three and four year old children with and without special needs. The preschool classes will be located at the Daniel Webster and Martinson Elementary Schools. There are spaces for children without special needs and their participation is determined through an open application process and lottery. Children without special needs must be three by August 31, 2019 to be considered for the three year old or four year old classes. The yearly tuition is paid online and collected monthly. Families are also responsible for transportation to and from preschool. Placement of children with special needs is determined through the evaluation and TEAM meeting process.
Applications for the integrated preschool for the 2019-2020 school year are available on the Marshfield Public School website www.mpsd.org and at the front office at Martinson Elementary School and Daniel Webster Elementary School.
Applications will be accepted through March 29, 2019. A lottery will be held if necessary.
