Reorganization Meeting
At the June 19 Board workshop meeting, David and Jackie Jaindl and their children Jake, Adam, Joanna, Josh and Luke, attended the Parkland School Board meeting where David Jaindl announced they had chosen Veterans Memorial Elementary School as the name. The Jaindl family was given naming rights to the school in exchange for their donation of the property for the building. Superintendent Rich Sniscak and the Board expressed their appreciation for the Jaindl family's generosity and commitment to the district. A full press release can be found here.

Principal Moniz also recognized Computer Fair Winner Sriyaa Suresh and her advisor Chris Barrett. For the 2nd year, Sriyaa received 1st place at the highly competitive state level competition for her work in animation.
Orefield Middle School Principal Todd Gombos recognized PA State Computer Fair Winner Shea Xander and her advisors Tammy Snyder and Brian Iobst. Shea, a 6th grade student, received 2nd place for her Logo project.
Regular Meeting
The Board gave the following reports:
Board President David Kennedy gave the LCCC report including the announcement of a new program called Summer Bridges that will provide students entering the Fall 2018 semester with strategies and skills to achieve academic success, prepare for the transition into college level coursework, and strengthen math and reading skills. Upon completion of the sessions, students will have the opportunity to retake the placement tests with the possibility of placing out of developmental courses.
Board Member David Hein provided an update on recent activities of the Joint Operating Committee (JOC) at LCTI, including recent Capital Improvement Projects.
Master School Board member Bob Bold provided an update on Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21, reviewing the four successful graduation ceremonies the IU held this spring. New Board officers were also elected and Mr. Bold was once again chosen to be the IU's Board President.
Carol Facchiano reported that the Foundation recently awarded 46 out of 72 Celebrate Innovation grants requested by Parkland staff, totaling $134,660.90 to Parkland School District with the intent of enriching the current curriculum to benefit a wide range of students, staff and community members. In total, 17 awards were given to the Elementary schools, 13 went to the two Middle Schools and 7 were awarded to Parkland High School. Additionally, 5 grants will serve the District at large. With the addition of these grants, the Foundation has given over $880,000 back to the District. Her full report can be found here.
Roundtable
Several Board members commended Principal Moniz and his administative team on a successful graduation at the PPL Center on June 11 this year. Superintendent Sniscak commented that it was one of the best graduation ceremonies he has attended in his 23 years at Parkland.
