From the Desk of Ms. Clark
August 20, 2020
As one family of faith, hope, and love, I welcome you back to the 2020-2021 school year! As we plan for a beginning like no other we have seen in the past, our focus will remain on our school’s mission of forming Catholic leaders through academic excellence, personal discipline, and Christian service. We will continue to ensure:
Every child, every day feels connected,
Every child, every day is being challenged by new learnings and experiences,
Every child, every day knows they are loved!
“Normal” is such a simple word, and it is our goal at SKD to not only find our new normal, but to use this time as a learning experience that will forever impact our SKD School Community. The start of this school year may not be “normal,” but our learning will not only continue, it will thrive. I am eager to move on to the next phase of learning under Covid-19 and we know, all returning and new students to SKD will be welcomed with open arms (from 6 feet away) to our school family- we will continue to grow!
We recognize the sacrifices you and your families make to send your children to Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic School. The faith-based education you have chosen provides an atmosphere warmed by the powerful presence of our loving and faithful God. I urge you to support our school through your prayers and participation. The close ties between family and school reinforce moral values and nurture our faith tradition.
Please enjoy these remaining days of summer as we eagerly anticipate another fulfilling year! Let us ask God to steady us for the journey of a new school year and give us peace knowing that we never walk alone.
Full Time Lunch Moderators- Help Wanted
Due to our new Health and Safety Plan for the pandemic, we must limit our visitors in and out of our school building during the school day. At this time, we are in need of permanent lunch moderators who are able to work Monday through Friday from 11am-1pm. Unfortunately, we will not be able to schedule lunch moderators for some days of the week as the lunch moderator will be required to stay only with his/her cohort each day.
If you are interested in this paid position or you know anyone who may be interested, please email Mrs. Guarino at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (215) 357-4720 as soon as possible. As always, all proper clearances are required for this position.

Mrs. Culhane will work in collaboration with not only me but with our school counselor, faculty, students, and parents to increase student achievement. She serves as the special education leader using data informed processes to facilitate achievement in specific academic areas.
Health and Safety Plan Updates
If you missed our Parent Virtual Forum last night, please reach out to Mrs. Figueroa, and she will directly send you the recorded forum.
Our team has implemented a variety of modifications to assist in safeguarding our school community’s health and well-being as we return to school.
Desks have be arranged as close as possible to 6 feet from the center of each desk to the center of the next desk.
All extra furniture, all area rugs, equipment, etc has been removed from the classrooms.
We have ordered hand sanitizers for stations to be placed outside each classroom, special cleaning tools to disinfect classrooms, masks and gloves, and ultra guard barriers for cooperative group work.
Each classroom will be equipped with a new chromebook, rolling stand, and microphone to allow for a livestream of instruction for students who will not be returning.
Parents will be required to complete a COVID-19 Safety Plan Agreement, including a commitment to follow all safety guidelines
Parents will be required to complete an at-home wellness check survey each morning prior to leaving for school. We will share more details about the testing process in the weeks ahead.
Visitors will be restricted to ensure that exposure risks are minimized.
Face masks will be required and students should maintain proper social distancing.
Please know that a great deal of time, effort, and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2020-2021 school year. Careful consideration was given to input from staff and families as well as student learning styles. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially and also according to our Health and Safety Plan. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level. All of our teachers work hard to make school a positive experience for all of our students. Please understand that it can take a few weeks for your child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group, and teacher.
All students will receive a Welcome Back Letter from their homeroom teacher next week, 8/24.
