High Interest Day
Volunteers Needed!
We are looking forward to High Interest Day at Horizon School on June 5. High Interest Day is a day for students to actively engage in a wide variety of learning opportunities that they choose. This event will also provide students with the privilege of building community partnerships and giving back to others during a hands-on service project. We are looking for parents, family members, friends, community members that are interested in leading a session or volunteering during the day. Some examples of courses include Quesadilla cooking, cookie decorating, henna, golf, Fairy Houses, etc. If you have an interest or idea you'd like to share with our students, please sign up. In addition, students are working on their Math Seminars in preparation for MAP Testing in March! Ask your child what their seminar is on.
Science
Through hands-on experiments, students investigated the properties of solids and liquids, specifically their mass. They discovered that if you have a piece of clay you can make it into any shape and it won't effect it's mass. Similarly with a liquid. If you don't add or take away any matter, it will have the same mass no matter it's change in shape.
Next week students will explore another property of matter, volume. Using the process of displacement, they will calculate the volume of irregular shaped solids.
Big Question: Does the volume of a solid change when you change it's shape?
