Comparing and contrasting Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and She's the Man.

Comparing Brothers

In the play Sebastian is believed to be killed at sea, while in the movie Sebastian is in London.

Spider or person?

Malvolio is a spider in the movie, while in the play he is a character. In the play, they trick him with a love letter. In the picture Malvolio is talking to Olivia after receiving what he believes is a love letter from her in the garden.

In the end...

In the play Duke and Viola get married, as well as Sebastian and Olivia. In the movie only Duke and Viola end up in a relationship. This shows the two are similar, but have a different plot.

A Quote From Both

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon'em."

Farce

Viola dresses as Sebastian. Farce can be when you have mistaken identity.

Comedy of Manners

A great example of this is when, Viola counts to five and then slaps Justin, her ex-boyfriend.

Comedy of Ideas

When Viola is trying to learn how to walk, she mocks people in the street. Her trying to mock others makes her look funny.

Low Comedy

When Viola/Sebastian and Duke are jumping around, scared of the spider.
