Guidance Lessons Grades 3-5
This month, I will be visiting 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms.
The focus this month is on Mindfulness and recognizing when we might need to tune in to ourselves and use a strategy. This ties into our Zones of Regulation curriculum and challenges students to recognize the signs in their minds and in their bodies when they are dysregulated (blue, yellow, red zones).
In 3rd grade we practiced some grounding techniques along with other mindfulness exercises such as deep breathing. We read the book "I am Peace" and reflected on times to use mindfulness exercises.
In 4th and 5th grade, students will talk about situations that could cause some dysregulation. They will then go through a series of mindfulness and calming strategies to help them move back to the Green Zone. Students will also reflect on what strategies work best for them and understand that regulating ourselves is not a one size fits all!
