Jefferson Union High School District
JUHSD Board of Trustees
Vice President Andrew Lie stressed the importance of getting vaccinated and how it can hit close to home with him sharing a story of a family member quickly passing away from COVID after contracting the virus. He thanked the district office staff for their dedication in finding creative solutions tp support students and staff. He mentioned that his continued goal, as a member of this board, is to support the students and staff of this community.
Clerk Carla Ng-Garrett thanked Student Trustees Ava Crotti (WHS) and Nadia Shaw (JHS) for attending the meeting. She shared that her goal as a board member is to help teachers stay within the district so they can teach more children in the community. Like Vice President Lie, she encouraged everyone to get vaccinated and do their part to stop COVID-19. She wished everyone a Happy Autumn Moon Festival, a traditional Chinese holiday that celebrates the transition from summer to fall.
Trustee Nick Occhipinti was proud to hear district alumni speak during the last board meeting's public forum. He stated that his job, as a public official, is to make sure everyone has a voice, especially the youth of this community. He also stressed the need of protecting green space within our district community and city.
Trustee Kalimah Salahuddin, after listening to District Wellness Coordinator Melissa Ambrose's presentation, spoke to the room on how supporting the importance of mental health and wellness awareness is crucial. Student Trustees Share Out!
Trustee Crotti shared that school is finally starting to feel normal again! In chatting with her Terra Nova peers, many echoed the same sentiment, especially after attending their back to school outdoor rally on their football field. During the start of each board meeting, it's always a treat to hear our Student Trustees eloquently share site updates, and concerns, with the school Board of Trustees and Executive Cabinet.
At next month's board meeting, we look forward to hearing our Student Trustees share new campus updates, questions, comments, and concerns related to their JUHSD school sites.
Our COVID-19 Dashboard is updated once a positive case is reported to the district, and school communities related to that case are notified.
