SUMMARY
This book is a clear definition of a Fantasy. As Daystar the son of Cimerone carries out his normal duties of the day his fate suddenly changes when a Wizard intrudes his home in search of him. Cimerone out of love for her son reveals her magic skills in front of her son, by casting a melting spell upon the Wizard. With the sudden change of events, Daystar has many questions on his mind, but his mother gives him a vague idea of what is going on. She retrieves a sword from the Enchanted Forest, of which they live outside of, and then sends him into the forest. Cimerone tells him not to come back until he can “tell her why he had to leave.” Confused about what all this means, Daystar has to rely on his teachings about the Enchanted Forest, his swordsmanship, spells, and magical protocols in order to decipher his journey. Along the way Daystar makes friends and companions with; a lizard named Suz, a fire witch named Shiara, Morwen the witch, and Kazul the King of Dragons. With each encounter Daystar, soon realizes the power of his sword and what he must do. In a cave he retrieves a key from sudden danger. Then upon meeting the King of Dragons, Kazul explains that Daystar must find Mendanbar, the King of the Enchanted Forest, and save him from his castle guarded by the Wizards. By using all of what he was taught Daystar storms the castle, with the help of Shiara, defeating the Wizards, and saving the King of the Enchanted Forest. Upon handing Mendanbar the sword, Daystar realizes that the king is his farther, making him the heir to the Enchanted Forest; therefore concluding the story with a happy ending.

Biography -
Patricia Collins Wrede, a fantasy writer for young adults, was born in Chicago, Illinois the eldest of five siblings. Her interest in writing began in the 7th grade. Having attended Carleton College in Minnesota, Pat only majored in Biology without haven taken any English courses during her enrollment. After graduating from college in 1974 she began her first novel, Shadow Magic, finishing it five years later. Immediately afterward beginning her second book, permanently hooked on writing at that time.
