Unit #3 SA
By: Brooke Nelson
Claim
Exploitation and competition over natural resources and interactions between major belief systems may create conflict.
Analysis
The misuse and competition over resources found in nature and communication between different groups with different beliefs may create a clash.
Application
Many places are fighting over natural resources. Sand wars, for example, is a documentary on the war on sand. Many countries are fighting over, and mistreating the precious resource. It makes up our worlds beaches, and due to building too close to the coastline the beaches have been receding. This causes a huge increase in the thirst for sand, and thirst cause greed, and greed causes conflict. One example of conflict between major belief systems is 30 Days - Living With Muslims in USA. Dave is an all american Christian who signs up to go the the heart of Muslim america in Dearborn Michigan. The two families have different values and traditions and this causes tensions between them. The tension causes conflict and arguments between the families. Another example is the conflict over natural resources in the Middle East. The Israelis and the Palestinians are fighting over land and the Jordan river, which supplies water for cities and irrigation. The fighting has become devastatingly violent, especially in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Future of the Middle East
I believe that the fighting will only increase, both parties are extremely stubborn. I believe that this conflict has the power to create the next World War. The fight is affecting everyone in one way or the next. The U.S. is affected because we are very close allies with Israel. Palestine has the support of mostly every Arab and Muslim country. This creates problems for many people. The U.S. wants oil, the middle east has plenty of oil, but with the conflict going on there we can't get to it.
Transfer
In my life I have had many examples of the enduring claim. This isn't something that is completely personal and only applies to me, but I have grown up with violence and fighting over land. It is no surprise to me any more when violence breaks out over land or natural resources. My whole generation is desensitized to violence, especially terror attacks. They seem to be the normal now. When I hear on the news that there is another fight, or war, or argument between countries it just doesn't phase me anymore and I think that my peers are the same way. An example of a clash between two different belief systems in my life was something that I can vividly remember. It was in 8th grade and there was a new girl in my school named Ayah. She was Muslim. I remember this one day when these kids were calling her horrible names and saying things to her like "You're a terrorist." and "Your family probably moved here because they're part of ISIS." It was terrible and it went on for a while, all because she has a different set of beliefs and she prays a different way.
