Martin's Memos

Volume 2, Issue 38: June 14, 2019

This Week

Parents,

Well, we've come a long way; this is our last newsletter for the 2018-2019 school year! It has been my pleasure teaching your children this year - thank you for entrusting them to my care. They are all so amazing in their own unique ways and I am so excited for their future as our program moves to Meadows.

Thank you so much to all of the volunteers that spent time helping our classroom and students this year! Your help has been invaluable! Also, thank you so much for the class gifts! The Amazon gift card, spa gift card and nameplate were so thoughtful!

Have a great summer!

A Note from the GATE PTO

Hello Avondale GATE families! As the year and our time at Woodland is coming to a close, we look forward to our new home at Meadows Learning Center.

The Avondale GATE Magnet School is an incredible opportunity for our gifted children to learn at the pace and level appropriate for each of them. Our new home is another big step forward for the program. However, in order to make that new school ready for the students, our PTO, under the direction of our new principal, has compiled a list of items we need to start our school off right.

Here is a link to the Amazon wish list that was created: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/23DQTIEYZ419X?ref_=wl_share

The electronic list is a good way to consolidate our ideas - if you can find the items for less elsewhere or have a good condition item for donation, just let us know and we will take off the list.

All items can either be shipped to our treasurer (Megan Marx, 6216 Sandshores Dr, Troy, MI 48085) or hold on to until the year begins.

Gift cards would also be greatly appreciated and you could indicate if there is something particular you would like to donate towards.

As the PTO is a tax exempt entity, all donations would be tax deductible and we have the ability to purchase items sales tax free if you want us to make those arrangements.

If you have any ideas for other items the school would need, questions, thoughts, etc please reach out to me on facebook or via email - meganmarx1106@gmail.com.

Thank you in advance for any size donation, item, purchase you would be able to make to get our school ready for fall!

Please also be on the look out for more information coming over the summer on school beautification, summer get together an Avondale GATE Meet and Greet!

Suggested School Supply Lists 2019-2020 School Year

For you over-achievers out there who like to look for deals over the summer - here are next year's suggested school supply lists! Last year, many parents asked which supplies were used as community supplies vs. personal, so we tried to organize them in that way this year. Please note that you will not know which class your child is in (for 2-3, 3-4, 4-5) until August, but you could start gathering the many common items in the meantime. Additionally, for those in 6th grade next year, the exploratory classes held at AMS may have additional supplies (TBD).
