The Annual Duck Race

The sun shone on us again for the duck race. The winners are announced below in the Friends' section of the Update. We would like to add our thanks expressly to the Friends.

A small group, supported by everyone who turns up for events, works really hard and it's wonderful that a lot of their fundraising activities double up as great community events. It was fantastic to see so many families down by the river. Believe it or not, the staff who stand in the river ready to catch the ducks actually enjoy it too!

Our Gardeners Enjoy Harlow Carr

Our Year 3 class have been working hard in the school garden and they deserved a trip out today to the wonderful RHS Harlow Carr Gardens to gain further inspiration. Miss Stocks reports that they have had an amazing day.

Enjoying a healthy breakfast

Well Done Year 6!

We have been very proud of the attitude of all our Year 6 children this week. After an early start and healthy breakfast in the school hall (we all know a good breakfast sets you up for the day ahead!), they have all tried their very best in their SATs exams this week. Year 2 have also been involved in SATs tests and assessments.

Our special thanks to our lovely PCSO Donna-Lise for coming along to the breakfast on Thursday to encourage the children, and the staff and governors who got here early every day to serve the breakfast.

Cathedral School has always stood for a rounded education. Next week we are looking forward to our Performing Arts Week.

Are you in finance or business?

The Governing Body are currently looking for a new recruit who might have financial or business skills to add to the team. The commitment could be as few as four meetings a year. If you are interested and have the necessary skills please pop in and speak to Mrs Rich in the school office.

Oscar's Sporting Days

On Thursday and Friday of half term Oscar's Holiday Club is open for business. There will be a sporting theme where children will get the chance to play a range of sports and games (as well as some quiet slow paced activities). There will be medals and prizes and we have ordered the inflatable assault course for Thursday.

Advice on Screen Time

It can be challenging for parents and carers to know whether children are spending too much time on their devices. Furthermore, it's even more of a challenge to know whether a child is addicted to the internet and social media. Do we as parents have the knowledge to identify and support our children? Is the best time to look into this whilst they are primary age or wait should we wait until their teenage years?

Updated Privacy Notice and Data Consent Form

We are sure that most of you cannot have escaped the new GDPR systems coming into place. As a school we are busy ensuring that we are compliant with the new regulations so we will be publishing a new information policy and privacy notices next week. Please check your emails or the school website for further details. A consent form for various data sharing activities will come home next Monday or Tuesday. Apologies that it will cover some information you have already provided, but we would really appreciate it if parents could send back the form by the end of the week. Thank you.

MESSAGE FROM THE FRIENDS

Thank you!: We had a lovely bright evening by the river on Wednesday for the Duck Race. Thank you to all children, parents, grandparents and more who came along - we even saw some of our former pupils enjoying themselves. We raised £160 through duck sales, so thank you ... but more than that, it was lovely to share the event with so many families! A special thanks to the school staff for their support.
