Math, Science, and Social Studies
This week we will continue studying the 12 facts. Students will spend time each day studying the 12 facts. They will have homework to study at least 15 minutes per night. Please make sure to continue to quiz your child on all the facts we have learned so far. We are working hard on automaticity for all facts 1-12. Your child has fact cards in their zipper pouch for all the fact families we have done so far. We will have an accuracy check on the 12 facts on Friday.
Social Studies-We have finished our 3 Branches of Government unit. Test from Nov. 18th will be coming home today.
Science-We will begin our next Science module today called "Energy, and Force and Motion". This week we will be conducting labs using the picture book Sheep in a Jeep.
It's going to be tons of fun!!
Reading, Writing, Vocab and Word Study
Word Study-- This will be our final week in the multi-syllabic word sorts we've been focusing on. This week we will continue looking at Open syllables (VCV long) and Closed syllables (VCCV Different and VCCV Doublet). We will add another Closed group this week (VCV short). Students are bringing home a set of words to use for practice at home that are highlighted by vowel sound and have the syllable dividers drawn. We will test on Friday. Orange group will be responsible for the sort and the spelling, blue group will be responsible for the sort only.
Reading--We will be wrapping up our Mars reading this week. We will then begin Barbara Robinson's novel The Best Christmas Pageant. With that novel we will be working on summarizing, characterization, and determining main idea.
Writing--This week we will begin researching self-selected topics in the area of Mars and/or space exploration. We will be reading to find information and answer questions, and we will be taking notes over our research.
