Ripon Cathedral School Update

Week ending Friday 7th September 2018

A Warm Welcome

A Letter from Mr Holmes

Dear Parents and Carers

Firstly, can I say thank you for the warm welcome that I have received from yourselves, staff and particularly the children. I have had a fabulous week getting to know the children as individuals and have been highly impressed with their confident attitudes, bright personalities and caring behaviour.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Dudman personally for his many years of dedication to the school. His passion and commitment to providing educational opportunities, with children at the heart of the school’s work, has ensured that there are strong foundations from which to build.

I feel very excited about the future and will ensure that as a Christian school, we will continue to work in partnership with families, the local community and the Cathedral to provide the highest quality education and care for all of our children.

Kind regards

Steven Holmes

New Faces

We are delighted that as well as all our new children, we have also welcomed new members of staff. Mrs Bradley and Miss Simpson are our new learning support assistants. In addition, we have three new teachers, Mrs Moore in Year 6, Miss Heslop Year 5 and Mrs McIlmurray in Year 4.

Class Drop Ins

If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to say hello to your child’s classteacher, staff will be available next Tuesday 11th September in their classrooms from 3.15pm through to 4.30pm should you wish to 'drop-in' and have a chat with them. As always, staff will make themselves available at other times should you need to have a meeting about any individual specific issues or concerns.

Fabulous Fun in Early Years

Our new Reception and Nursery children have been having lots of fun exploring, investigating and making in their provision areas. They have settled really well and are enjoying playing and learning together as a class.

Fantastic Walking and Marvellous Manners

As a school, this half term, we are exploring the values of respect and reverence. This week children have demonstrated their respect for the school and their peers through their ‘fantastic walking’ and ‘marvellous manners.’ I am sure that they can demonstrate their brilliant behaviour for you at home as well!

Lunch in the Sunshine

We have had fantastic weather over the summer and have made good use of the last days of sunshine by allowing children in Year 5 and Year 6 to have lunch outside. It was also an opportunity to model marvellous manners and show respect to one another, as Mr Holmes and Mrs McCormick served the dinners, 'restaurant style' to the pupils!

Oscar's Summer Holiday

Many of our children enjoyed the start of the summer holiday because they were still in school! During the first week Mr Biggs, our PE specialist, led sporting activities, and as you can see, there were lots of smiling faces. In the second week, Upstage Academy Ripon led dance workshops. Thanks also go to Mrs Armstrong and her team who organised the club and kept the children safe and happy.

Oscar's is back to its regular hours, opening for breakfast from 8am and running to 5.45pm after school. Booking is made using our online booking site. Just use the email address you have provided to school as your username and click 'forgotten password' the first time you use it. It may not be possible to get all our new parents set up this week, apologies for any delay. Just email us at school if you are experiencing any difficulties.

Music Lessons at School

We are very fortunate that a number of talented musicians come into school every week to take the children for individual or small group instrumental lessons. If you are interested in your child learning anything from the drums to the cornet, please pop into reception.

Our excellent class music teacher Mrs Elcock has taken over from Mrs Lumb as our flute teacher. She is happy for you to email her on for more details.
