Schlegel Safari Newsletter
February 2021
Hello Schlegel Families!
Hopefully, you are taking advantage of the beautiful winter weather with your family. Everyone benefits from outside activities even during the chilliest time of year. Whether it is a quiet walk, sledding, skiing, or just creative playtime outside, our brains all need and benefit from the outdoors. So get outside and play EVERY DAY!
Yes, it is that time of year! Your child(ren) and their teachers are celebrating their mid year goals. This means you have the opportunity to conference with your child(ren)'s teacher. By now, you should have received an email from your child(ren)'s teacher asking you to sign up for a conference. Please plan on the following schedule changes:
Thursdays March 11 & 18- PM session students DO not have school
Fridays March 12 & 19- AM session students DO not have school

Take some time to talk with your child(ren) about what they are learning in school. This may help you develop questions to ask or information to share with their teacher(s).
Thank you to the PTSA, Ms. Palmer, librarian, & Ms. Palmer, art teacher for organizing two wonderful events for our families. Bingo for Books gave students more opportunities to enjoy reading in a variety of ways. Ensuring our students grow to LOVE reading in Elementary School sets them up for success in life. Square 1 Art encourages all of our students to show their creativity. Be sure to join the PTSA meetings to learn more about all the wonderful support our PTSA provides for your child(ren).
With smiles,
Dr. Francine Leggett and Mrs. Kate Hesla
Principal and Assistant Principal

Attention 5th Grade Families - Middle School Music Choice
Thank you to families who have already completed the 6th Grade Music Choices form that was sent home via Infinite Campus and Middle School introductory mailings that you received from either Spry or Willink. The information you have provided will allow us to move forward with scheduling options for the coming year. If you have not yet submitted a choice for your child, please do so by Thursday, February 11th at the latest.
If you need the form, please click on the active link: 6th Grade Music Choices. We will begin some work with projections for course sections soon. Those students not selecting an ensemble (Band, Chorus, Orchestra) will be enrolled in General Music. We appreciate your attention to providing our schedulers your child's preferred music class. If you have any questions, please reach out to a current music teacher of your musician.

Elementary Specials and Upcoming Swaps
TOPIC: Elementary Specials & Upcoming Swap
Elementary Art & General Music teachers have been diligently working with Grades K-5 over Google Meet this year. I have personally sat in on a few sessions to enjoy seeing the faces of our Fine Arts students participating in activities we would usually have in our classrooms. We have been doing our best to bring some authentic music and art experiences to their 'at home' part of the day. All students have now had one Art and one Music rotation thus far.
Beginning on Monday, January 4th, students will be switching their Fine Arts offering back to the first rotation of grade levels. These will be ALL NEW learning experiences for our students.
K-2 will visit again with their ART teacher online during live Google Meet sessions.
3-5 will visit again with their MUSIC teacher online during live Google Meet sessions.
Codes were shared with grade level classroom teachers to access the Art or Music pages through SeeSaw (K-2) or Google Classroom (3-5). The links to the live sessions will be available on those platforms. The portals used for the first round of learning should still work to allow students into class. If your child needs the Art or Music code, please coordinate with your classroom teacher.
If your child has not been able to participate up to this point, please take this change opportunity as a fresh start at the beginning. We would love to have all our One Webster artists and musicians online with us.
Again, on Monday, January 4th, Art and Music switch grades.
K-2 will be in ART.
3-5 will be in MUSIC.
Thank you for your support,
Michael Roller
Director of Fine Arts
