Johann Sebastian Bach

Bach was born March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Germany. He is known for his 295 church cantatas, 6 great motes, 5 Masses, and the great Passions and Gratorios.

George Frederick Handel

Handel was born February 23, 1685 in Halle, Germany. He is most famous for his overtures, which were mostly in the French style. He is also known for Water Music, Firework music, Giulio, Cesare, Sosarme, Alcina, Acis and Galatea, and his orchestral concertos, Op.3 and Op.6.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Mozart was born January 27, 1756 in Salzburg. Some of his famous works are Eine Kleine Nachtmusick, Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Die Zauberflote.

Baroque

Baroque is used to describe music from the 1600-1750s in Western Europe. Some types of music in this style were the cantata, concerto, sonate, ovatoria and opera. An example of the music of this style is The Four Seasons. Some artists from this style are Monteverdi, Rameau, Bach and Purcell.

Rococco

Rococco was a style of architecture, decoration and painting from France around the 1720s. This style used a lot of ornamentation. A few examples of famous painting from this style are The Swing, A Young Girl Reading, and The Embarkation for Cythera.

Peasant Life

Daily Life

The life of the peasants changed very slowly, due to the traditions of their cultures. During the Enlightenment, serfdom was still strong in Eastern Europe. In Western Europe, some parts of serfdom still survived. Many of the traditions of food and entertainment did not change over this period, due to the continuation of serfdom.
