The Grain Drill
By: Jensen Schulz
The grain drill was invented by William Pannack in 1841
How it helped.
The grain drill helped people by making replanting easier. Replanting had to be done when over grazing or drought happened.
The New and Old
The old grain drill had to be pulled by four horses at a time. Hooking up the horses wasn't always easy in 1841. Today we need just to hook it up to a tractor a go. With the horses you needed to make sure that everything was on line and hooked up correctly.
The Old
Being pulled by four horses, the farmer waits for hours to. For the field to be replanted.
The New
Now with double the pulling power this farmer quickly gets the field replanted.
The Power
12 horses is what it would take to pull all three of these grain drills. Now it takes one tractor to pull two grain drills.
As you can see, this grain drill is not very complex. Making sure it was in working order took a least a days work each time.
In detail, you can see the differentiates of the grain drill and how they work. Each part is labeled and helps replanting move faster and smoother.
This is what another grain drill looked like. It was small like this before it was big like the one to the left.
