Butte County Community School Foxes
Winter 2022
Principals Note:
Happy Fall BCCS Fox Families!
We are so excited to see rain in the forecast and we can’t wait to see our students continue to grow during the second quarter of the year. Students across the school did well on the beginning of year benchmark assessments, showing little to no summer slide and even some amazing growth! Our new late start Monday schedule is going well and has allowed a lot of amazing collaboration and planning time for our teachers and staff.
The year kicked off to an amazing start and there are many events coming your way during the next quarter! Elementary fun runs start back up this month and will continue throughout the year! Pizza with the Principal began last month and the students were so excited for the Round Table Pizza treat that was donated by the Pillsbury Round Table Pizza! Please keep checking our BCCS calendar on our website. We are working hard to keep all upcoming events posted so you can attend!

Ms. Julie
My name is Julie Skinner and I am delighted to be a part of Butte County Community School. I will be covering for Gemma this year while she is out on maternity leave. I have been teaching for 8 years in a variety of classroom environments including traditional, physical education, and after school enrichment. My goal for the year is to get to know each student’s individual needs and support them the best I can. In my classroom, I encourage positivity, community, and acceptance. When I’m not teaching, I love to be outdoors or watching one of my favorite bands perform.
Mr. Mike
Greetings, parents and families! Thanks for your continued support and communication. So far this year has been successful and fun: Students in my class have really enjoyed meeting and learning from our 10-week guest artist, Taz Yamaguchi, also known as IPC (I Paint Creatures). We have also spent considerable time in good literature (3 novels so far) this year and it’s truly fun and refreshing to see students loving literature. Keep in touch if you have any questions or want to drop in for a visit to class.
Mr. Mark
Happy New Year! As we are ending our second quarter and begin our third quarter of the new year here are some things we have been working on. First I would like to say, this has been a great second quarter. Seeing, talking to, and connecting with students has been fantastic. WE have been engaging in some great conversations in all of our classes. I look forward to seeing what we accomplish for the third quarter. Here is what we have to look forward to this quarter.
For World History we have finished Unit 1, The World Before Modern Times and are in the process of finishing Unit 2, An Era of European Imperialism. We will begin Unit 3, The Twentieth Century. For Life Science we are finishing Unit 2, From bacteria to Plants and will be heading onto Unit 3, Animal Diversity. We are continuing to work through Math Readiness which is on Edgenuity and students are on track. For our 9-10 English we are reading the novel Out of the Dust, by Karen Hesse then onto Tuck Everlasting, by Natalie Babbitt. With these stories there is discussion, questions and writing and projects to do. For the 11-12 English we will be Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury. Then we will be onto The Lines wWe Cross by Banda Abdel-Fattah. With these stories there is discussion, questions and writing and projects to do. Many of the assignments are on Google Classroom where students can check to see what they are missing. All work is due March 11th for the third quarter. Again, we have had some great discussions about many of the things we have read and talked about. Please be sure to ask questions about what your student is learning.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me through email: mabbay@bcoe.org.
Thank you,
Mark Abbay

Mr. Dave
Greeting All! I’m Mr. Dave. I’ve been working at BCCS for a few years now as your half-time Special Education teacher. I am excited to say that I will be here full-time, so now I will also be your High School teacher as well.
I’m looking forward to working will all of you this year; we’ve got some exciting things going on!
I am looking forward to the 2nd quarter of school. Currently, two of the students are working on independent projects. Six students are completing construction camp where they are building dog houses. Several students are set for graduation in December. These are great young people!

Mr. Jordan
This month, and the rest of this semester, the seniors will be focusing on college applications and researching their degree pathway(s). Our 9-11th graders are focusing on career readiness which includes: creating a resume, soft skills, career research, and mock interview practice. We are working on the Who Am I project in advisory, this project helps students explore, and hopefully help them realize they are capable of amazing things; how they are perceived by strangers is ultimately in their hands is the goal of this project.
We have 6 students that will complete the first round of our Construction Camp, they are working in teams to complete luxury dog houses. Hopefully we can continue to hold a camp each semester.
