A Message from the Principal
Dear HFCS Community,
This Wednesday, weather permitting, we will be observing a livestreamed Veterans Day at 8:15am. Please join us as we honor all of those who have served our country in war and in peace. Thank you to all of our veterans who have sacrificed so much to keep our country safe.
The Diocese is no longer using the IOWA test to assess student learning, we are now using ACT Aspire. ACT Aspire allows us to do periodic benchmarking to chart student progress throughout the year, IOWA did not provide this important feature. Like IOWA, ACT Aspire also has a summative standardized test that is administered once a year; we will not utilize this test until 2021-2022. Our 3rd through 8th grade students will take three periodic benchmark tests during the course of the year. These tests will help the teachers support individualized learning strategies with their students.
This week and next week, we will be administering ACT Aspire periodic benchmarking tests to our 3rd through 8th graders on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with Friday being a test makeup day for students who have been absent. Distance learners will not be participating in this testing process.
6th and 8th graders had two testing sessions today, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with plenty of breaks in between the tests.
3rd and 4th graders will have two testing sessions, on Tuesday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with plenty of breaks in between the tests.
5th and 7th graders will have two testing sessions, on Wednesday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with plenty of breaks in between the tests.
These are not tests that students can study for ahead of time. The best preparation for the tests is a good night's sleep the night before the tests, and a good breakfast the day of the test.
Remember that this Friday, November 13, is a noon dismissal day. Our faculty will be participating in our ongoing Virtue Based Restorative Discipleship training.
We are looking forward to seeing our dads at drop off this Friday morning in celebration of our Drive Thru Donuts with Dads – Go Hornet Dads! We thank our Home and School Association for sponsoring this event.
Thank you to everyone who donated items for the 8th graders service project for the homeless. We are entering the season of gratitude and thanksgiving and it feels good to help those in need.
Have a great week!
Blessings,
Ann Walters

Driving Through Donuts with Dad!
With the pandemic, DWD will run a bit differently this year.
Here are the details...
- Pull up to the cones on Friday morning as you would picking up your student/s in the afternoon.
- When at the cones, pose for a picture with your child/ren prior to them unloading from your vehicle.
- As your child is getting out of the car, you will be given pre-packaged donuts and a beverage.
- Then you will be on your way.
Please be patient with us a we distribute these breakfast goodies to all of our wonderful dads!
And dads, if you are unable to make it, send granddad or mom in your place!
