President & Vice President have to be elected together.

12th Amendment

  • Amendment was passed in December 9, 1803.
  • The 12th Amendment was adopted to fix a flaw in the Constitution that had allowed Thomas Jefferson to tie in the Electoral College with his vice presidential candidate Aaron Burr.
  • It is important so a Vice President that may be republican can't be elected to be with a democratic President and could cause problems.
