PCHS PARENT News
August 19, 2019
Welcome Back!
Welcome back to all students and parents. It is so great to see everyone at Platte County High School. We are looking forward to celebrating each of you as you grow and find success over the year.
To help you achieve your goals, we are planning to see you each and every day. Research proves that students who maintain a high attendance rate, on average, demonstrate higher levels of student growth and achievement. With that said, to ensure we are aligning with the State of Missouri expectation of students being in attendance 90% of the time, staff members are encouraged to become a Pirate Presence Accountability Partner.
Staff who serve in this role will build positive relationships with the students. They will also help students develop goals and check in with them weekly to see how they are doing, as well as support them with any needs. Please read through the Pirate Presence flyer attached to this newsletter. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Stephanie Theis at (816) 858-2822.

Visitor Management System: Hall Pass
Our visitor sign-in process District-wide is called Hall Pass. Hall Pass Visitor Management System has been installed in all of our schools to improve overall building safety/security. The system will:
Log in volunteers to track their hours
Be used to document late-arriving students.
We want to inform parents of the process before coming to our school to visit or check a student out of the building. Whenever any non-student or non-District employee requests to enter any area of the building where students are accessible (anywhere beyond the front office) or requests to check-out a student, they will be asked to produce a government-issued ID:
State issued ID
Passport
U.S. Military ID
Permanent resident card
The ID will be scanned, and a badge will be given to visitors, or the student check-out will be processed. This process is a key to maintain the safe and caring environment we have established for our students and staff. If you have any questions, please contact the school office at 816.858.2822.
First Home Football Game and Pirates ROCK Community Tailgate - Friday, August 30

Have you Opted In to Receive Texts?
School Messenger is our automated phone calling and text notification system. We use this system to notify parents quickly for sudden changes in schedules due to emergencies, cancellations, or just important school announcements.
If you aren't receiving the District's text reminders and notifications and would like to opt in to receive these, simply text "YES" to 67587. Standard text messaging rates apply.
Bullying and Safety Concerns
Safety is one of our district’s top priorities and to help safeguard our school community, our district is now using SafeSchools Alert, a tip reporting service that allows students, staff, and parents to submit safety concerns to our administration.
You and your child can easily report tips on bullying, harassment, or any safety issue you're concerned about through SafeSchools Alert.
Every tip SafeSchools Alert receives about our district is immediately logged in the system and our administration is notified so that they can investigate and take appropriate action. And, tips may also be submitted anonymously if you prefer.
Together, using SafeSchools Alert, we can make our district a safer place to learn!
