As We Embark on a New Year Together
Dear Parents:
On behalf of the entire Reed Staff, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the start of a new school year. For those of you whose children have attended our school in the past, welcome back! For those of you whose children are just entering Reed School for the first time, we are pleased to have you as part of our school community. Know that we're busy preparing for the start of the year and will be here to work alongside you every step of the way. Enjoy the last few days of summer break!

Reed's Student Supply Drop Off Event
Monday, August 15th
11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. and
3:00 P.M.-5:00 P.M.
Reed will be open on Monday, August 15th for anyone who would like to find their child's classroom and drop off supplies between 11:00 am -1:00 pm and then again from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. Teachers are NOT required to be present so it will not be the time to meet and greet.
The teachers will have places for you to drop off the various school supplies in the classrooms. As you can imagine, the teachers have spent many hours preparing their classrooms for the first day of school. We ask that you tour the classroom, but not move anything such as books or learning materials. Also, please do not write on the whiteboards. If you would like to leave a note or a message, please stop by the tables outside of the office for some paper and something to write with.
A First Student bus will be on-site and parked in our bus lane for students who would like to practice boarding a bus and to see where buses load and unload.

Reed's One Book, One School Choice for This Year
Our One Book, One School choice this year is Just Ask by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. It's a heartwarming book that celebrates the different abilities kids have and ties in nicely with our SEL (Social Emotional Learning) efforts this year. This book also prompted this year's school theme Be Different, Be Brave, Be You. As always, it's our goal to ensure that all students feel welcomed, supported, and loved while in our building.
New Staff to Reed
I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new staff members joining us this year:
-Ms. Amnah Hzaiyen will be joining the 2nd grade team
-Mrs. Amy Wiecek will be joining us as a reading specialist
-Mr. Doug Krop will be joining us as a PE teacher
-Mrs. Jacklyn Craven will be joining us as our permanent substitute
-Ms. Alia Abdallah will be joining us as a lunch/recess supervisor.
Please join me in welcoming them to our family!
Continued Focus on SEL This Year
Grading
- Students will be graded using traditional letter grades A, B, C, etc. to reflect the traditional percentages of A (100-90%), B (89-80%), etc. Please note that 2nd grade science and social studies concepts and standards will be integrated into the reading/language arts block.
- Teachers will also give feedback in a variety of ways that address core standards for each grade level and subject area.
