Puketapu School Newsletter
Week 3, Term 3, 2019
Empower All People to be Healthy, Lifelong Learners
Kia kaha - do your best * Kia māia - be courageous * Kia manawanui - have a heart
From the Principal
Wow, what a wet week. Lots of excited kids exploring with mud. (If your child really enjoys the mud, please send them with a spare set of clothes. Or two.)
Thanks to the Year 7&8 basketball team for the most points ever scored against a strong Puketapu Pedagogy Panthers staff team. It was a hard game - I will need to go to the gym before next year's game.

Puketapu School Enrolment Scheme
Working with the Ministry of Education, the Board of Trustees has agreed a draft enrolment scheme which we are now sharing with our community, neighbouring schools, iwi, council and other related parties to make sure we make an informed decision.
The details of our proposed zone are on our web site at www.puketapu.school.nz/proposed-enrolment-scheme/
The MOE has great information online in the Parents section of their website, which answers questions about how zones work, what happens about siblings, priorities for enrolment and much more.
Later this term there will be a formal consultation meeting to finalise the scheme but before then, we want to hear from you.
We are inviting feedback about the draft zone so please let us know if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions by email to office@puketapu.school.nz

Staff v Students Basketball
After a great game between the Pedagogy Panthers and the Puketapu Penguins, the teachers came out on top 28 - 19.
Valiant effort from the students who managed to pile 17 more points than last year's team and hold the teachers to under 30 points! Superb effort! Coach Alejandro is very proud and Luke Sowman has even requested a rematch!

The children in Rimu have been making him some new friends such as Cuppy and Spoony. They have been using hot glue guns and recycled materials to make sure Forky has some friends to hang out with.

The Tech Hub
Kia ora Puketapu whanau.
This term in Tech the students have picked their own options. These include soft materials (using fabric), hard materials (using wood) and micro:bits.

GREEN DAY - Friday August 9
Maths
Don't forget that next Tuesday is dress up for Maths Week.
Numbers, patterns, shapes, symbols... what will you choose?
We are looking forward to some creative thinking!
Cross Country Fun Run & Walk... Not Dawdle 2019
Here is the race order for the day:
Races will start at approximately 9.45am and will be about 5 minutes apart. The whole event takes about an hour and a half.
Every child dressed in whanau colours will get an extra whanau point on the day. Every whanau supporter dressed in whanau colours will also get a whanau point.
The first 3 places will be recorded and after that everyone will receive a point for competing... so heaps of whanau points up for grabs.
Piripi, our school community policeman will be sizzling sausages for everyone once they have completed their race as well. It is going to be a fun day.
If the weather does not play the game a postponement date will be advised.
CCFR&W not D Sponsorship forms will be coming home soon.
Each child is asked to gather sponsorship to complete this event. This year ALL money raised will be going towards upgrading our sports equipment. That is new playtime equipment as well as new gear for sports lessons. Everyone is the school will benefit which makes it super exciting.
SPARE CHANGE OF CLOTHES
If you have old pants, trackies or tights that your kids have grown out of, we would love to have some more spares please.
Why it is important not to be late to school
Before the bell goes at 8.55, children use this time to put away their lunch boxes and book bags, connect with their friends, catch up with their teacher, hand in any notices and settle together ready for learning.
This time before the bell goes is a very important time for our children to be prepared for the day.
Being on time allows them to be settled and organised and feel ready for a great day.
Can you help with Ski Camp?
We have 20 Year 8 Students ready to go on Ski Camp in September, but we need more adult help. Without more adults, there will be no ski camp.
Can you spare a few days for a ski trip?
The group would leave on Tuesday 10 September and be returning on Friday 13 September.
Costs for transport, accommodation and food for helpers are all covered, however, there may be a small cost to cover your ski gear hire.
If you could help, please contact any of the Kauri Learning Team Teachers or the Office.
Kick Start Breakfast Club
It is free and a great way to start the day. If you haven't come before, why not pop in one morning next week?
