Covid Updates and Information

Hello, West Sound Tech Community!

Schools continue to evolve the protocols and supports for Covid and Covid related absences.

Most important:

If your student is absent due to Covid, please contact our director, Shani Watkins, as soon as possible at, or by phone 360.473.0552.

Ms. Watkins needs the following information from families:

1. Student name and program at WST

2. The student situation, for example, does your student have symptoms, a positive test, or were they in close contact with someone who tested positive for Covid

This information is provided to our school nurse who will follow up with families on next steps.

Students cleared to return to school must return with a copy of their vaccination status or proof of negative Covid test in order to return to school. Please provide this documentation to your student upon their return.

If your child is exposed to someone that tested positive for Covid while on the WST campus, you will receive a robocall from WST, an email from the District Covid Supervisor, and a follow-up letter from the director.

Checking Student Grades

All students have access to their WST Skyward account. There is also a parent access for WST Skyward. Even if your student has a Skyward account with their sending school, your student will have a SEPARATE Skyward account for their grades and assignments specifically for WST.

If you do not yet have your access or can't remember your access, please contact Erin Mckiernan at

Leadership Opportunities for YOUR Student

All students at West Sound Tech have the opportunity to participate in extended leadership experiences with WST. This year to better support our students in engaging in these opportunities, students will register for Skills USA.

Skills USA is a local, regional, state, and national organization that supports students in career and technical education. The mission statement is below.

Soon, your child will bring home the registration application to join Skills USA. Dues for Skills USA total $20, $8 for national dues, $8 for state dues, and $4 for regional dues. If your child qualifies for free or reduced lunch, WST will support their dues payment.

Mission Statement: SkillsUSA empowers its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens. We improve the quality of our nation’s future skilled workforce through the development of SkillsUSA Framework skills that include personal, workplace and technical skills grounded in academics. Our vision is to produce the most highly skilled workforce in the world, providing every member the opportunity for career success.
