Where the Adventure Begins...
Happy Friday!
Dear Parents,
Thanks to all who joined us for our Valentine's Parties this past Tuesday. The children had a blast! We hope you enjoyed it too.
I wanted to share some super exciting news! Lindsay Brittain, ALC Teacher, and Jennifer Cox, Physical Therapist, had submitted a grant earlier this year to build multiple adaptive cars for our students! These Go Baby Go cars are children's cars that they wire and modify so that they will go with the push of a button. Children who are immobile often cannot qualify for a motorized wheelchair until they are much older and are able to demonstrate the ability to drive one. With these adaptive cars, we can get our 3 and 4 year olds mobile and begin teaching them the skills they need to get their own motorized wheelchair earlier in life. Often times, this is the only way they are able to connect and interact with more typically developing peers on campus! Not only was the grant approved, but enough materials have now been purchased and received to build the next three cars! The materials for building these are at our district CTE Center where our oldest students will be building these for our youngest students! We are super excited for the experience that all students involved will have and just wanted to share it with all of you!
We hope you enjoy the 3-day weekend with your sweet little ones! We look forward to having everyone back on Tuesday of next week!

Just Say No!
We still have parents making u-turns at the end of King's Ridge near the barricade where the street ends. Please plan ahead and enter in the direction you will need to be going. That is not the appropriate or safe place for u-turns. Our school resource officer has asked us to pass this information along. Thanks for helping!
Parenting Tips and Tools
Here are some tips on helping your children be more independent at home!
Expect more. Most people have a way of living up to expectations and that includes our children. At school we often expect the kids to pour their own water at snack, to throw away their plates, to hang up their jackets -- and they do. But often we see them walk out of the classroom and the thumb goes in the mouth and they climb into strollers. Raise the bar and your child will be more apt to meet it.
Resist doing for her what she can do herself. While it may be quicker and easier to do it yourself, it won't help to make your child more self-sufficient. Appeal to her sense of pride. Whenever you're trying to get kids to dress, put jackets on, sit on chairs during meals and so on, ask them, "Do you want me to help you or can you do it yourself?" Those words can be magic. Most of the time the child will want to do it for themselves! When your child does it, simply tell them, "You try first! Then I will help."
I want to hear from YOU!
Hey ECS Parents! I've created a new forum called The ECS Parent Place! As your child's principal, I want to make sure I keep open lines of communication with all of you! I'm hoping this will turn into a great forum where you can post questions, feedback, and praise so that I can stay better connected with you and your perspectives. I look forward to hearing from you! Just click this link and then look for the hot pink circle with the plus sign. Click on that and you're on your way! I'll keep an eye out so I can respond to your posts. Thanks!
