Brentwood Special School District
August 2022 Edition
Dear Families,
This will be our last newsletter of the summer. I will send our next one out shortly after the school year starts. Our Brentwood team of teachers, related service providers, and paraprofessionals return back for the 2022-2023 school year the week of August 15th. During this week, staff will be participating in professional development, planning, prepping, and connecting with one another. Additionally, special education case managers will be connecting with the families of the students they case manage via email, phone, or a letter home. If you have any questions about the upcoming school year, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

VIRTUAL LUNCH & LEARN SERIES FOR SSD FAMILIES AND STAKEHOLDERS
Special School District’s Family and Community Outreach, Social Work, Parent Education and Diversity Awareness (PEDA) and Communications departments have teamed up to offer a virtual Lunch & Learn series for SSD families and stakeholders.
Representatives from nine community organizations will participate in order to increase awareness about their agency and make connections with those in our SSD community who may benefit from their programs and services.
We will share updated dates and topics for the 22-23 school year when they become available.
FACE
Special School District is excited to announce the creation of the Family and Community Engagement program (FACE). FACE, a merging of Parent Education and Diversity Awareness (PEDA) and Family Engagement divisions.
“We are so excited creating this new division that will utilize 30 years of research around family engagement to help us build a strong foundation for partnering with our families for student success,” said Executive Director of Teaching, Learning, & Accountability Dr. Mollie Bolton. “By aligning our resources and focusing on what works as stated in the research, we will offer amazing opportunities to support our students to excel to their greatest potential.”
The mission of FACE is to partner with students, families, and staff to support students throughout the District. These supports will include specialized academic, social, and emotional needs to promote self-determination, equitable opportunities, and authentic inclusion.
“We will be offering some of the great resources and activities that our families have been a part of in the past, as well as new opportunities for feedback, partnership, and growth,” said Bolton.
Families will still have access to the great resources formerly provided through PEDA and Family Engagement, like the Family Leadership Institute (formerly known as the Parent Leadership Institute), the Resource Hub at North Technical High School, Lunch & Learn virtual series, workshops, and more.
To learn more and keep up to date on the great events hosted by FACE during the 2022-23 school year, visit www.ssdmo.org/face.
