News For & About Raymore Elementary & Early Childhood

Happy Spring, Raymore Families!

Dear Raymore and Early Childhood families,

It has been a wonderful end to 3rd quarter and beginning to 4th quarter! Our class families have been celebrating tremendous progress this year with their learning targets and personal goals. It has been so nice to enjoy the start of some warmer weather and outdoor play and recess here! Our students are working on exciting learning activities with technology, writing projects, and more as they reach for their second semester learning target goals. We know they can do it! I hope you are able to join us for one of our exciting events this season! (See below!)

Thank you for your continued partnership and support each and every day as together we help your child develop a love of learning and reach their goals. As always, please feel free to call or email me if you ever have an idea, question, or concern. My door is always open, and I am happy to help!

Warmly,

Michelle Hofmann, Principal

P.S. Please visit our school website raymoretigers.weebly.com for the latest exciting school news and event info!

Join these ladies at our banquet dinner on May 7!

The Teacher and Support Staff finalists will be honored and the winners will be announced at a dinner event sponsored by the Raymore-Peculiar Public School Foundation. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, in the south high school patio commons. You are invited to attend the dinner to show support for the finalists. The cost is $20 per person. To RSVP, or for more information, contact Pam Steele at the Administrative Services Center at 892-1311 or pam.steele@raypec.org.

Can you volunteer to mentor or tutor a child? Then we need you for our Tiger Buddies program!

If you can volunteer as little as 30 minutes a week, we have many students who would benefit from a mentor, tutor, and more! Please contact our counselor Mrs. Beck at 892-1940 if you can join us! What a difference you can make!

We LOVE our Watch D.O.G.S.!

We have had over 120 dads once again signed up this year to volunteer a day in our school! That is incredible! If you're a dad, grandpa, etc. interested in joining, we will have another kickoff pizza night and training in August 2014. Stay tuned!

Also, check out our feature in the April 16, 2014, KC Star! Our very own Watch D.O.G.S. Mr. Hill and Mr. Moots are featured! And thank you to Lead Dog Mr. Aly Abdelgawad and his inspiring leadership this year!

C.A.N. is always accepting donations for our kids on the weekends!

This is a wonderful program began right here at Raymore Elementary by our very own PTA and staff! Many families in our community and school face food scarcity. In our lobby daily, there are donation bins for our C.A.N. (Caring About Nutrition backpack) program, and we are always accepting donations. Please join us in the District-wide Food Drive! All items can be dropped off in the bin in our school lobby.

Take a picture of your donations or of your donors and tweet it @RP_Foundation and @CANFoodProgram #Hearts4RayPec

Visit our weekly menu site and donate anything on it! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090E48ABAC2FAA8-caring

Early Childhood Applications & Screenings Now Open!

Interested in our great program? Screening appointments for the district’s free Early Childhood program will continue BY APPOINTMENT on April 29 at Raymore Elementary School. Parents interested in this preschool opportunity are invited to call Linda Sharp at 892-1933 to sign up for the needs assessment/screening process to occur on April 16 that will be used for determining eligibility for the program. All Raymore-Peculiar residents who are at least 4 years old by July 31 of the upcoming school year are eligible to submit an application to participate in the Early Childhood program. Following a needs assessment/screening process, participants will be notified of their eligibility for the program sometime in May. Selection criteria will include both the needs assessment and the screening results. For a list of documents needed and for more information, go here: http://www.raypec.k12.mo.us/DocumentCenter/View/6923.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) to expand in 2014-15!

Thanks to our amazing district leaders and piloteers like Ms. Mason, next year you might see more "BYOD" classrooms at our school! This semester, students in Ms. Mason's 2nd grade class piloted putting technology to work as they engage in high levels of deep, engaging learning through activities using applications like Padlet, shared Google docs, Mobymax, and more! As you recall from our December newsletter, one teacher per building was selected to pilot a BYOD classroom this semester. It is true~it isn't the device or technology itself that makes learning occur; it is the great planning by a teacher for HOW to use technology to open doors and create engaging, relevant and rigorous learning experiences. Thanks to Ms. Mason's great planning and the support of Mr. Hunziker, our Digital Learning Teacher, and Mrs. Mullen, our Library Media Specialist, as well as so many of our parents, this project is proving to be a 21st century success with engaging our students in learning. Stay tuned for more exciting updates.

Ray-Pec School Board Approves Strategic Plan! Check out the brief below:

Everything we do in our school ties directly to support our district mission, vision and strategic goals for our kids. Our Strategic Plan was jointly developed by staff with input from our parents and patrons.

Ray-Pec App now available for your smartphone or tablet!

As part of our ongoing commitment to communicating with stakeholders, the Ray-Pec School District announces a Ray-Pec application for Apple and Android smart phones.

The district partnered with SchoolMessenger on the development of the app, which provides a quick and convenient way for users to access calendars, sports schedules, school locations and maps, contact information for schools, lunch menus, social media, and more.

You can download the app for your smart phone by using the links below or searching by name (Raymore Peculiar) in the Apple App Store and Google Play for Android.

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=raymore&c=apps

“The app is designed to provide easy access to school and district information,” said Ryan Gooding, Director of Technology. “Based on feedback from users, we envision continuing to build out the app to meet future needs.”

Quick Tip!

From our Unity Day 5K, weekly class meetings, leadership programs, counseling lessons, and assemblies here, we strive each day to build kindness among our students, encourage "upstanders", and prevent bullying and other unsafe behavior.

The Raymore-Peculiar School District values the safety and well-being of each student and staff member. In an effort to sustain a positive school culture, the district has adopted another method to report school safety or bullying concerns. Quick Tip is a simple tip line allowing students, staff, parents or any member of the community to communicate with the Raymore-Peculiar School District about school safety or bullying concerns. Of course, students and/or parents are always encouraged to make direct contact with a school principal or district office administrator to report safety concerns at any time. To submit a school safety or bullying report using Quick Tip, click on the School Safety/Bullying Reporting link located on the home page of the district web site (www.raypec.k12.mo.us), and complete the information requested. Please keep in mind that more detailed information allows for a more thorough investigation.

The district will follow up on each report and implement the appropriate intervention based on the details provided and results of the investigation. False reporting is subject to disciplinary action.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to sustain a safe school environment and culture of respect!

Would You Like to View Your Child's 2013-2014 Progress?

Our teachers regularly gather information about what your child knows and is able to do so they can identify gaps in learning progress and provide engaging opportunities to challenge them. On October 18th, all parents in Ray-Pec received a letter indicating various assessments that are used throughout our district. The great news is that at anytime you have access to many of those scores yourself through our School Information System (SIS). For assessment information, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Raymore-Peculiar School District website at the following web address: http://www.raypec.k12.mo.us/
  2. Look on the left side of the page and find "Quick Links".
  3. Click on "Parent Portal (SIS)"
  4. Click on the "Parents" tab and type in your user name and password.
  5. If you do not have a user name and password, contact the school secretary for assistance.
  6. Log in to SIS.
  7. Once you have entered your user name and password, look to the left hand side of the screen and click on "Assessments".
  8. Depending on the grade level, there are different assessments available.
  9. Contact your child's classroom teacher if you have questions.
