On the School Calendar
Every day! School doors open at 7:45 for breakfast, classes start promptly at 8:15!
This and next week:
5th/6th Grade Science Trips to Drexel Labs: 5th and 6th Grade science classes are taking walking trips to the Drexel BEES (Biodiversity, Earth & Environmental Studies) Research Facilities. Voyager permission slips are due ASAP and we are still in need of parent chaperones (sign up) for the last Pathfinder trip - Monday, October 22nd and for all Voyager trips.

Thursday, October 25th: HSA hosts breakfast with Mr.Boyle at 9am, meet at entrance lobby
OCTOBER 30th! HSA movie night, the movie will be Halloween based (PG), it will begin at 6pm. Entry is free! Popcorn & Cotton Candy, $1. Movie Combo (hot dog, bag of chips & juice) $3. Parents are welcome to come and enjoy. Volunteers are needed! Please email slamsfams@gmail.com
Wednesday, October 31st, 2pm-3:15: Mini-course showcase! Students will be presenting what they have learned in their mini-courses to peers. See student performances and pieces of art on display!
November 6th: No school for students, Election Day
November 7th, 8th & 9th: Parent/Teacher Conferences! Your student's advisors will be notifying you how to sign-up for times.
November 7th, 8th & 9th: Early dismissal for students at 12:20
Tuesday, Nov.13th: Lit Lab begins! 3:30-4:30 after school. Students will work weekly after school with our Humanities teachers to strengthen skills.
Thursday, Nov 15th: Math Lab begins! 3:30-4:30 after school. Students will work weekly after school with our Math teachers to strengthen skills.
November 15th: HSA Bake sale at lunch!
November 20th: HSA Meeting at 6pm, meet at entrance lobby
Weekly Repeats
Mondays: Run Club. Meet after school in the class-a-gym-a-torium. Students go on a brief run with a supervising teacher.
Tuesdays: School Selection process is open. Prospective families can tour SLA-MS from 9:30am-11am. For more information & to sign up for a date use this link.
Every Thursday: $1 Pretzel Sale. Soft pretzels will be for sale in the morning & at lunch time, while supplies last!
School Announcements
Lose your Student ID? You can get a new one from Ms.Hull for $5 during your lunch.
Shelled seeds are not a snack for school. Please keep them at home or enjoy them outside of school.
Last call for Box Tops! The deadline for bringing them in to your advisor is this Monday, 10/29. Lots of littles can make a lot, so thank you, SLAMS Fams, for helping raise funds for our school!
Dress for warmth! Fall has set in fast. Please make sure your SLA-MS student is dressed to be warm and comfortable.
Lost & Found is full! If you're student is missing an item such as a coat or lunch bag, check the grey plastic bin on the first floor in the cafe-gym-atorium.
Keep slime at home: Slime, putty and other gooey substances are not allowed at SLA-MS. It can ruin Chrome Books, other personal belongings and clog sinks. Please keep it at home.
Community Exploration volunteers needed! We are in need of SLA-MS family and community members to volunteer during 7th grade community exploration on Wednesday 2pm-3:20pm. Students will be exploring the high school application process and other community opportunities.We need volunteers to be with the 7th graders during this class time. If interested, contact Ms.Potts, Community Partnership Coordinator, dpotts@philasd.org or complete this availability and information form.
Reminder: students need to be seen by the nurse prior to early dismissal for illness. Students must see the nurse first before being picked up for an illness.
Wear Layers! We've noticed some students are chilly in classrooms. Having a light sweater or hoodie will keep your student comfortable and focused on learning.

From the Nurse's Office
This is a reminder that it is school protocol for students to be seen by the nurse prior to early dismissal for illness. Students must see the nurse first before being picked up for an illness.
The flu/cold season has begun. To limit the spread of illness, please use the following guideline when determining whether or not to send your child to school. Thank you for keeping our school healthy!

After school technology program! Wednesdays, 3:30-5pm, 3939 Warren St Tech Stars is offering an after school program for students in grades 5-8 interested in programing and electronics. Vetri After School Cooking Lab through Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Classes are free, 10 weeks from 4pm-6pm on Monday (4th-6th grade) or Tuesday (7th-9th grade) at 3550 Market St., Second Floor. Classes begin week of 9/24 and run through 11/27.
