FFA Plant Sale Supports Students, Staff, and Community
The Future Farmers of America (FFA) program at Eagle Point High School has hosted the Annual Plant Sale for around 50 years. The Buckaroo Breakfast, which takes place on Saturday, May 7th, has been around for 60-70 years.
The Plant Sale is one of the major FFA fundraisers of the year. The event takes months of planning, participation, and collaboration from all students and staff involved with FFA. EPHS holds the Plant Sale in their three greenhouses and is open to the public for three days from 6:00 am - 6:00 pm. The sale consists of a wide range of vegetable starts, annual flowers, and hanging baskets.
Several students were interviewed regarding their involvement and experiences. Here is what they shared:
Kacey, a senior who is in the Veterinary program at EPHS said, "I have been with FFA all four years. I knew as soon as I got into FFA, I was hooked."
Kacey will be graduating in June and plans to continue her career path in Veterinary Medicine. She is grateful for her involvement with FFA and the opportunities she's been able to access through the program.
Megan, a Horticulture student, really enjoys the program and even became a Chapter Officer. She said, "I was a little surprised at how much I liked it, once I got into it."
Cody, a welding student, and first-year FFA member said, "I enjoy being here, it's my duty to help out. It takes teamwork and I need to do my part."
Morgan is a senior in the FFA program this year and oversees the daily operations of the greenhouses. She has been in FFA for years and feels that the agriculture field is her true calling. Morgan will be attending Oregon State University in the fall and plans to become an Agricultural Science teacher. She said, "I love agriculture and I want to be able to give students the same experiences I had."
The FFA program for many students is a community of values, support, and career opportunities. Students collectively feel that the program teaches them professional and personal life skills and provides interactive learning experiences.

EPSD9 School Board, April Recognition of White Mountain Middle School Staff and Students
The following students and staff were recognized at a recent assembly for their outstanding work by our School Board. Board Members in photos are Emily McIntire and Randy Wolf.
Words from White Mountain Middle School:
Emily Staten - She is a role model student. Can be quiet and shy, but is always paying attention and absorbing knowledge everywhere she goes. She is very respectful to all of her teachers and her peers. She is kind and generous. She has worked incredibly hard to improve her academics and has been an incredibly good student in all her classes.
Emily works hard every day to learn and be the best student she can be. She is very deserving of this award for many reasons. She always meets in all of her Employability Skills and I enjoy having her in my class. She is a stellar young lady.
Uriel Zepeda - Uriel is an amazing role model for other students. He brings a positive attitude to school with him every day. He is a natural leader in my AVID class, a front office aide, and an all-around great kid. Writing can be a chore for him, but I see him putting more effort into revising and perfecting his work than any other student in my class.
Uriel Zepeda has made tremendous growth since he started at WMMS. He strives to be a positive leader, role model, and friend. He worked really hard to raise his grades to become a student aide and has successfully maintained those grades. We will miss him when he moves to EPHS.
Uriel is an amazing, helpful, respectful, and just AWESOME office aide. Always willing to help out and do anything we need. He is kind to everyone who walks into our office.
Christopher Angle-Hobson - Chris has been an incredible mentor to have as a relatively new teacher. His dedication to his job and students is unparalleled. I can always count on him for advice, support, and any other help I may need with my job. He has been acting as the coach of WMMS all year in addition to his full-time teaching job and is doing great.
Chris is so great. He is always willing to help staff, students, and parents any way he can. He is an amazing language arts, AVID, and dual-language teacher. All of his kids love and respect him. He is very passionate about his job and cares about each one of his students. He is a rockstar!
Rosario Cervantez - Chayo is an incredibly hard worker that has developed strong relationships with all of the students and staff here at WMMS. She provides support in math and also helps with our newcomers. She is very helpful as I need it and eager to help. Fun to be around and always has a smiling attitude.
Rosario Cervantes is a wonderful IA who works really hard to create meaningful relationships with students. Every morning she is greeting each and every student with a positive attitude to ensure they have a great day. Thank you Chayo for all your vibrant love!
Outside Adventures at Table Rock
Hiking Table Rock was on the agenda last week for several groups of EPSD9 students, and yes, they were excited! URCEO's 4th and 5th-grade students had the opportunity to venture out on April 26th to spend the morning in the sunshine, surrounded by nature.
Upper Table Rock has a 1.25 mile-long walking trail that ascends approximately 720 feet to the top. The trip consisted of about 20 students, some students were experienced hikers, and others were hiking for the first time.
Several URCEO students shared their experiences, favorite parts of the trip, and even some photos. Here is what they had to say:
Maji was so excited, he said, "I had my bag and walking stick packed the night before, I couldn't wait!"
Aiden said he couldn't believe all the flowers. "I took so many flower photos, my favorite part was all the flowers."
Izayah said, "It's so flat at the top, you can land a plane up there."
Many students walked away with a new experience, and several stated they would like to keep hiking over the summer with their friends and family. The class enjoyed lunch at the top and had enough time to explore before heading back down the trail. It was a fun-filled day!
Table Rock saw its second group of EPSD9 visitors later in the week by the Vocational Independence Program (VIP). The Trip took place on Friday, April 29th, and consisted of 9 participants. The sun was shining, and faces were smiling as the group started up the path.
The Vocational Independent Program routinely has outings scheduled for Fridays, and when the weather gets nicer, the options become greater.
Jenner Zon, SpEd teacher, said, "When you're able to get people outside in a different environment, they can show you a new side of themselves. One VIP participant, who is usually quiet, opened up and really started talking."
Creating opportunities for people to discover and develop skills is a major focus of the Vocational Independence Program. The Table Rock hike took planning and participation from all group members and was a successful adventure.
Eagle Rock Elementary S.T.E.A.M. Night
Words provided by Eagle Rock Elementary:
At Eagle Rock Elementary, we feel strongly that our parents and community members are an integral part of the success of our scholars. So in keeping with our school’s mission statement, “In partnership with families and our community, every Eagle Rock Elementary School student will achieve personal success and become a responsible and productive citizen”, we have a commitment to invite parents and community members into our school to see the great things we do here.
On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, ERE had its first-ever S.T.E.A.M. Night. This event incorporated Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics into one incredibly awesome night! Families and scholars were treated to so many engaging activities! We had a tower building station with spaghetti and marshmallows, tin foil boats, various art activities, “Save Sam” the gummy worm from drowning, a real-life antique exhibit, a phenomenal science show, bead bracelet making, slime, and so many other things! We even had free pizza and snow cones!
This evening was a major success for ERE. We were able to not only accomplish our goal of including families and the community into our school, but we also got to build the community reputation that ERE is the place to be!
What an incredible evening this turned out to be! It could not have been accomplished without the tremendous efforts of ALL of our Eagle Rock Staff. All of the planning and hard work that went into S.T.E.A.M. Night made it one of the best we have ever had…..until next time!
