IMPORTANT SCHOOL INFORMATION
Students will not meet in person for classes the BGISD School District until April 20th.
We hope everyone in your family is healthy and not affected by the COVID-19 virus. We greatly miss our students walking through these doors and seeing their beautiful smiles. It's been a joy to see some of you as you pick-up work or are on our Lunch/Breakfast routes. We hope to be able to meet again this year, but we know this situation is fluid and changes daily. It is important that we keep moving forward and making the best out of the situation that we are in.
Our teachers during this time are working very diligently to provide our students with the most effective learning opportunities. Teachers are attending virtual conferences and meetings daily so that we continue to learn and grow during this time as well.
We know this is a learning curve for everyone and now having to delegate working from home and provide homeschool opportunities within your daily schedule is challenging. If you ever have a question, please reach out to your child's teacher and if we need to dig further we'll help at the office level.
Spring break is next week so there will not be any work or teacher communication sent your way until late in the week. (to prep for the week of April 6th) We want everyone to enjoy this time at home without the pressure of having school work to complete.
Below is information on different school or district level items that may concern you or your child. Also, please remember that no activities, programs, or extra curricular activities will take place on school grounds until further notice.
For more information from the district level please go to the BGISD Webpage.

2020 Yearbook Orders (ATTENTION)
5th grade band registration for BGJHS
Dear 5th grade students and families,
This is the time of year that we do a final push for band registration, and is usually a time of year when 5th graders tour BGJHS, see the current 6th grade band perform, tour the band room, ask questions, etc. Unfortunately, this year is a little different in regards to those traditions, and we want to make sure you have the opportunity to sign up if you haven't already.
If you have no prior musical experience (strings, choir, etc.), please do not be discouraged about giving band a shot. We don't expect you to know anything about music; we teach it from the beginning to everyone assuming no one knows anything.
If you did try strings, and it wasn't for you, rest assured that band and strings are not the same. If your parents are hesitant to let you invest in a different musical instrument because you didn't stick with strings, please talk with them about your desire to try something different. Parents, if you have concerns here, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. (If you are still in strings and plan to continue, you can also be in band! See the FAQs attached.)
We regularly have students come to us well after the school year has started (some of them even in 7th or 8th grade) regretting that they did not give band a try, asking if they can join late. The answer is a complicated no. The only time to try band is at the beginning of the school year. Once we get going in our instruction, we don't go back and review for those joining late, etc. We progress at the same rate and begin to advance pretty quickly. If your child is "on the fence" about trying band, please encourage them to try it now, or it will be too late.
Please read the frequently asked questions document below, then contact us with any questions or concerns you may have. If you look at the list of students registered so far, and you believe your name was supposed to be there, simply complete the online registration document and we will gladly add you! We're really looking forward to starting next year strong, with lots of excited band students, and hopefully returning to some normalcy!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Shores & Mr. Briley
