Message from the Superintendent
December 31, 2023
Greetings Raider Families and Staff,
Happy New Year! As we welcome in a new year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on all the things that are going extremely well in ISD 200, but also allows for an opportunity to review areas that need improvement. Thanks to many of you, our top 5 priority areas for improvement were identified in the recent survey.
School Safety and Security
Recruit and retain high-quality staff
Student behavior/discipline
Mental health services for students
Career and technical education (trades, business/marketing, health services)
In today’s Raider Update you’ll find information regarding changed practices at our middle school as we prepare for our 2024 return to school, calendar reminders, and information on the 2024 Tour of Gratitude and the State of the District.
Middle School Changes:
While I’m hopeful that all of you found time for family and friends over the break and hopefully an opportunity to recharge, I’m grateful for the number of staff members who spent time over break establishing new routines, expectations and protocols for our middle school.
Our middle school families will be receiving additional information on January 2nd, which will provide additional details. All middle school students will be meeting by grade level on January 3rd to review these newly established procedures and expectations.
2024 Calendar Reminders - We’re anxious to welcome back all our students on January 3, 2024. Please click here for the entire 23-24 calendar. As we start the new year, it's a great time to make your 2024 plans to ensure you don’t miss any upcoming Raider events. Please click here to review our entire events calendar.
Tour of Gratitude - The support from the community for our recent technology levy is and will make a difference for our students. Thank you again. As a follow-up, I will be conducting a tour of gratitude, which will provide an opportunity to personally thank community members, but it will also be used as an opportunity to include state of the district highlights and an opportunity for our community to ask questions about future plans, current work, etc… Please let me know if you have a connection with a group that might be interested. The preferred timeline is January through February.
In closure, thank you for all you do to support Hastings Public Schools. As always, please contact me with any questions or feedback regarding our schools.

Find a Dentist
Tooth decay is the most common preventable chronic disease among children in the United States. If left untreated, it can negatively affect a child's physical and social development, as well as his or her school performance.
Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) cover dental services, including check-ups, x-rays, fluoride treatments, dental sealants, fillings, and more. Use this Dentist Locator to find a dentist in your community who sees children and accepts Medicaid and CHIP.
