Central Kashmir Vole
Threatened
Background and Characteristics
The Central Kashmir Vole is found in India and Pakistan and prefers temperate montane forests with rocky areas and caves. Voles are medium to large sized rodents with small, rounded ears and short legs. They are commonly found in shades of gray and brown.
Threats and Solutions
War and civil unrest have contributed to the degradation of the vole's habitat. Other forms of human encroachment such as land development have added to the loss of habitat as well. Nothing is currently being done to improve the vole's situation, but field surveys and population monitoring is recommended.
