Week at a Glance 1/09 - 1/13
Mrs. Vernon's ESVA 4th - 5th Social Studies
Parents and Students,
I hope that all of you were able to make it through this first, short week of school! LIVE CLASSES RESUME NEXT WEEK! I am so excited to see (and meet!) everyone as we return from the Winter Break!
WELCOME NEW STUDENTS!
If you have not done so already, please take a moment to read through my welcome e-mail HERE which contains information on accessing the materials and class expectations. If you have any questions or concerns, or just need a little help getting started with things, please let me know and I would be happy to help you with whatever I can.
Important Notes:
- NEW THIS SEMESTER! All comprehension questions will automatically give students two attempts, with the highest score being recorded. This way, students can have the opportunity to double-check incorrect answers and improve their grades without having to ask me to reopen the assignments! I hope that this is helpful.
- Student awards for semester 1 were emailed out yesterday! Please check your inboxes and be sure to celebrate your student's accomplishments!
- I will be taking a little time in class this Tuesday (1/10) to allow returning students to share their 13 Colonies Travel Brochures. I am LOVING the ones that have been turned in!
- In class on Thursday, we will be making little "pop-up books" illustrating triangular trade. If possible, please have the following supplies ready for your student:
- 4 sheets of blank paper (white or any light color will do)
- Scissors
- Glue stick/Glue
- Pencil
- A printed copy of "Triangular Trade Images" attached below
- If you are new to class this semester, please note that all comprehension questions and assessments must be completed in Schoology - NOT STUDIES WEEKLY. This way, students will receive a grade for all of their hard work! If you are having difficulties logging in to the Studies Weekly website, please have your student click on the "Log in with Google" option and use his or her school login information. If that has not worked so far, please wait a day or two and then try again, as our Curriculum Department is still creating new student accounts. In the meantime, all reading materials can also be accessed in that week's folder in Schoology.
Summary of Next Week’s Lessons:
- Students will review the first thirteen colonies in America, then discuss triangular trade and the introduction of slavery in the Colonies.
- We will also be adding a few more states to our states and capitals maps. Please print one of the blank templates below if your student does not already have a map to annotate.
Please see the attached Week 19 Assignment Schedule below, and have a wonderful weekend!
