Hour of Code
EHHS students participated in the Hour of Code, an international movement to bring coding concepts into K-12 classrooms. Through a collaboration between the math department and the library media specialist, students had the opportunity to program robots using block coding, learn to use Python in Code Combat, and take on the roles of programmers and computers in an “unplugged” activity. Senior Leonal Guiao visited some classes as part of his senior Capstone project and taught students how to build a computer. For more information, see https://hourofcode.com/us

Math Department News
In Trigonometry, students participated in various interactive activities which modeled simple harmonic motion. Students computed the necessary parameters to graph the motion and write an accompanying function. These activities are one of many ways that students at EHHS demonstrate understanding and mastery of the skills that make up the East Hampton Profile of a Graduate.

Wreath's Across America
Coach of the East Hampton High School Baseball Team, Tom Seidl is an Eversource employee and has annually been involved with the Wreaths Across America project, laying wreaths at all the graves at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. As head baseball coach at EHHS, he requested help from members of the EHHS Baseball team knowing that supporting this important tribute is a great educational experience as well as a team building exercise. Fourteen player volunteers and several parents got involved along with Rick Garafalo (JV Coach). This past Saturday (December 14) was a raw, rainy morning, but that didn’t stop our team from assisting other volunteers including Eversource employees and Veterans to offload 3 large U-Haul vans and an Eversource box truck filled top to bottom with wreaths for the veterans’ gravestones. The annual undertaking began with boxes of 10 wreaths being passed down a line of volunteers to set for prestaging prior to the noon ceremony. The boxes were then emptied, broken down, and then set by the curb for later pick up. Coach Seidl was very proud of the compliments directed to our young East Hampton men, one in particular from Eversource's Director of Operations, who stated, "Tom, you should be proud of these boys. They are here in the cold and rain where most kids their age are home sleeping." A veteran later came to Coach as the boys were cleaning up the cardboard and had a tear in his eye. He asked "what team were they on?" After he was told, he added "they are special young men,” as he wiped the tear from his eye. Thank you to Coach Seidl and Garafalo – and our Boys Baseball team for showing true Bellringer pride!
