What do they want to influence?

Their goal is to achieve its mission to serve, advance and lead the network of organizations and individuals who cultivate, promote, sustain, and support the arts in America.

They have four primary goals:

  1. lead and serve individuals and organizations to help build environments in which the arts and arts education thrive and contribute to more vibrant and creative communities
  2. generate meaningful public and private sector policies and more leaders and resources for the arts and arts education
  3. build individual awareness and appreciation of the value of the arts and arts education
  4. ensure the operational stability of the organization and its ability to creatively respond to opportunities and challenges

How it all satrted

Americans for the Arts was founded in 1996 as a result of the merger between the National Assembly of Local Arts Agencies (NALAA) and the American Council for the Arts (ACA).

Congress and party Support?

There is a lot of support from congress and a majority of it comes from the Democratic Party.

Public Events

2015 National Arts Awards; more than 400 of the world's top artists and philanthropic leaders gather to recognize these achievements and applaud the accomplishments of a wide range of individuals that exhibit outstanding leadership in the visual and performing arts, arts education, and philanthropy


Arts & Business Council of New York Arts Volunteer Fair; in this event you can hear from local arts organizations about volunteer projects that you can sign up for on the spot, learn more about their mission and find a placement where your skills or interests ovelap

Arts & Economic Prosperity; has grown to be the largest study of its kind (182 communities participated in the last AEP released in 2012) also its the most frequently cited resource of its kind in the country.


E-Advocacy Center; last year alone, this network transmitted almost 100,000 e-mails from people across the country for free when they sent a message to any elected leaders
