In math this week, we are continuing to work on addition and subtraction as students develop strategies to solve math problems.
There will be a daily multiplication test to encourage students to memorize their multiplication facts. You'll receive a letter tomorrow with more information.
ELA
We've been reading tall tales, fairy tales, fables in our study of folktales. We will continue with fables and myths this week. The focus continues to be on the following standards:
Understand that how a character changes in response to a challenge provides clues about the theme/central message. (RL.3.2)
C2. Explain how the central message, lesson, or moral of fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures is conveyed through key details in a grade-appropriate text. (RL.3.2)
In small groups, we working on various reading strategies.
Social Studies
We've been learning a bit about this history of our country, the 3 branches of government and the system of checks and balances. This week we'll learn about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
Fundations
We'll wrap up Unit 5 Tuesday with our unit test. Students have been learning about schwa, the short vowel sound in unaccented syllables that do not match the letter.

I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school’s mission and vision. I look for ways to be a good citizen.
