Teacher Appreciation Week
Please consider sharing your notes of gratitude this week to your child's teachers, past and present. You may even want to reach out to your own past teachers and thank them for the impact they have had on you. Teachers don't do this job for the recognition, but those sweet reminders make all of the hard work worth it!
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all of the dedicated teachers out there! A most special shout out to the staff of our school... we are truly blessed with the best!
Melissa Willis, Principal

One School, One Book
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Our School is about to take part in a special, communitywide shared reading event. Every child will receive a copy of the same book, Frindle by Andrew Clements, and will be asked to read it together at home over the next few weeks. We are personally asking you to make the time so that your family can participate in this special activity.
Along with the book, you will receive a reading schedule so that you can keep up at home. Generally, you will be asked to read about 15 minutes each night.
In school, your child will be invited to answer daily trivia questions to encourage and reward active listening. You will soon find that your child will take pride in knowing and anticipating the details of the story. In class, students can explore the book through activities and discussion. You will want to make sure your family keeps up so that your child can be included. Throughout the month, everyone will be talking about Frindle!
This is a novel program in that children of all grade levels will all be listening to the same book. Strange or daring as that may seem, it actually makes sound educational sense. Reading professionals recommend reading material out loud that is beyond a child’s own reading level. We also believe that you can and should continue reading chapter books with your older children, even when they are able to ready by themselves. We have selected a title that can be followed and understood and enjoyed by younger students, but will still captivate and stimulate older children.
We know that you’ll enjoy this special reading time with your children. We hope to talk with both you and your student sometime in the days to come about discovering new words! “When a whole school reads a book, there’s a lot to talk about.” With your help, we can build a Community of Readers at our school.

Happy Reading!
Virtual Day of Instruction
On Tuesday, May 17th, East Fallowfield Elementary School will be used as a polling place for the primary election. Therefore, East Fallowfield Elementary School will have a virtual day of instruction and students should access their learning from home this day. Teachers will share their schedules and zoom links prior to this virtual day of instruction. I wanted to let you know as soon as possible for planning purposes and I apologize for any inconvenience this schedule change may cause. I thank everyone for their flexibility and understanding.
