A Newsletter From Your Principal, Shannon McPherson
A Letter From Shannon 1/20/23
I am sure you will agree that this week was a bit disjointed and tough to get the routine going with a holiday off on Monday and then the snow day. Where snow days are fun from time to time, they make for a tough week of trying to get our momentum going again. But we finished strong and got ourselves back on track by Friday! Thursday was a special day at Cougar Run as we had principal visitors walking through classrooms and learning from the expertise of our teachers and our students. All of the principals from the Highlands Ranch High School Feeder and the Rock Canyon High School Feeder walked through classrooms and checked our the work that our kids and teachers are doing in their classrooms. The feedback was stellar! They shared that the culture in our building is warm, welcoming and positive. They loved the look of our school and felt the calm music in our hallways and freshly painted walls added to the positive culture and climate of our school. They were astonished by the work of our students. They commented about the level of engagement they saw in classrooms and the students being able to discuss the learning targets that were the focus of the work they were doing. Superintendent Kane also showed up and she was equally impressed. We were so proud to share the work that we do each and every day to make great things happen for our kids.

HRHS Wish Week
The students of Highlands Ranch High School have joined together to host a Wish Week to raise money for Make-A-Wish® Colorado and help create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We would like to invite you to join us and help grant wishes for kids like Beckett and his wish to go to Lake Powel!
These wishes are unique, powerful and life-changing. Wishes have proven physical and emotional benefits that can give children with critical illnesses a higher chance of survival. When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, sadness with joy, and anxiety with hope. A wish transforms the lives of children, their families, volunteers, supporters, medical professionals, and entire communities.
Help us to transform the lives of these deserving kids. There are lots of ways your school community can get involved! Our Wish Week will be held on 1/26 - 2/2 and we invite you to participate in our events throughout the week. Attached below is a document that lists out our Wish Week events, including restaurant nights, spirit days, and athletic events. Please share this information with your school community and encourage them to attend and participate throughout the week. News Letter

Traffic Flow Issues
While we have many traffic reminders frequently, we have seen a new traffic issue on Venneford Ranch Rd and Meadow Creek Drive at the 4 way stop. Reminder that our parking lot is a ONE WAY flow of traffic. Cars should not be entering against the direction of traffic to enter the side parking lot. Please have patience and wait for the flow of traffic to move. In addition, we are so thankful for our crossing guards and we need to keep them safe. If they are in the intersection to guide pedestrians, there should be NO traffic moving from any direction, regardless of where the pedestrians are.
