A Message from Principal Katherine Rivera

I want to thank all of the parents, community volunteers, and the Parent Teacher Organization for the incredible support and love you showered upon us! THANK YOU!

All parents/guardians please be aware that we will be collecting all of the District Technology devices(iPads, Chromebooks, Hot Spots, and chargers)that students have been using on the last day of school: Thursday, June 10th, and June 11th.

June 10th -Drop of in parking lot on Ave del Ora 1:30-3:00

June 11th - 9-3 in the main office

Some of you have been asking if your child can access some of our online learning tools like RAZkids and iReady over the Summer? The good news is that students can still use Clever to access Learning A-Z/RAZkids, iReady, and other applications. We recommend that families bookmark the district Clever page on their home devices BEFORE students return the district i-Pads and Chromebooks. It is important to test it out to see if it works on the home devices before Summer vacation starts. Families can find Clever at www.rcsdk8.net/clever. It's a good idea to write down your child's User name(the student's kids.rcsdk8.net address) and password or they can also use their Clever Badge to be able to log in with Clever.

We are expecting that all students will return to In-Person learning with our normal school schedule for the next school year(Distance Learning will not be an option). If you are moving and your child will not be returning to our school, please call the office or email me. We are already creating balanced classes for next year and need accurate numbers of students.

Please note that I have attached a "Draft" School Calendar for next year below(a few of the community events have not been approved yet by PTO). Parents, please make your family travel/vacation plans according to the district vacations so your child does not miss school. You will receive the Final Calendar with the MAZE day packet in August.

I wish everyone a great and relaxing summer vacation!

Read-A-Thon Fundraiser: Results!!

We raised $18,555 for STEAM next year. We ended just slightly short of our goal. The fundraiser is over but will be kept open for a short time so that you students can purchase rewards in their rewards store.

Please log in to the rewards store and have your children choose their prizes by Wednesday, June 2nd. Items will be mailed to your teacher on Wednesday and be distributed to your students next Wednesday.

There is no wiggle room on this, so please do it ASAP. If nothing appeals to your child or you have extra monies left, please consider buying classroom incentives for your teacher.

A huge thank you to Wanny Tam for leading this fantastic effort! We hope everyone enjoyed it! We will be trying this fundraiser again in November before Author-Illustrator Faire!

Flamingos are on the Move!

Friends all over town are getting “flocked” by Orion. Support Orion Parent Participation and Mandarin Immersion Programs while having a little pink flamingo fun! Make a donation and send a flock of pink flamingos to your friends’, family members’, or neighbors’ front yard! Check out the website for details.

https://starshiporion.org/flamingoflocking/

We will also begin flocking Orion with students’ fun decorated flamingos. Please pick up a flamingo to bedazzle in the office and bring it back to school to join the flock! Look out for other animals and surprises on campus next week.

Next week will be our final Kenyan Assembly. Sam will be touring us through Nairobi.

Don’t forget to check out our website where we are posting all of the amazing resources.

PTO Special Listening Sessions:

Last week’s listening session was held for the spanish speaking, original John Gill families. Parents had the opportunity to share the impacts of the merger on their community in an intimate setting. Parents from other communities were limited in attendance to encourage candid sharing..

Our final listening session will be from the perspective of the current teachers and staff. At the Teachers’ request, this week’s listening session will not be recorded and a written summary will not be provided. We encourage all to attend to hear their perspecitves. We thank everyone who has participated so far and we look forward to the next steps in restoring and nourishing our school community.
