Welcome EVERYONE!!!

We are very proud of our school community and what we accomplished together throughout the past few years while maneuvering through a pandemic. We are very enthusiastic about the fresh start of the upcoming school year! We are thrilled about initiatives and activities being incorporated into our daily work which will include building-wide strategies geared to encourage and support academic learning, positive student behaviors, successful work habits, organization, effective communication and inclusive interactions with others. We will continue to support students in doing their individual best as our intention is that Lake Middle School is a welcoming, supportive and safe place for all students to learn and grow academically and socially!
Our school-wide theme for the 22-23 school year is “Good Vibes!” We will be intentional in promoting positive mind-sets and optimism in our actions and interactions with one another in all that we say and do. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) will be at the core of our daily work in supporting our students socially and emotionally in order to reinforce their overall academic progress and success!
We know that we will need to continue to adjust as needed in the year ahead. Please know that all district information specific to the upcoming school year can be located on the SoWashCo Schools webpage at the following link: https://www.sowashco.org/ This will be where you will continue to receive the most current district updates for the upcoming school year.

CAMP 6 for ALL Incoming 6th Grade Students - Tuesday, Sept 6th
Lake Middle School will welcome ALL incoming 6th grade students to our middle school transition program, “Camp 6.”
“Camp 6” will take place on Tuesday, September 6th from 7:50am to 2:26pm. (This is considered the first day of school for all 6th graders.) This day is set aside to have only 6th grade students on site so that we can focus on successfully transitioning them in to the middle school setting while they have the building to themselves for their first day of the school year!
There is no registration for Camp 6 required. Regular bus routes will be available for students who are assigned bussing during the school year. Students within walking boundaries will need to walk to school or plan their own transportation to school. (*Bus routes will be available in parent portal in late August.)
Lunch will be provided during “Camp 6.” (Students can also have the option to bring their own lunch from home.)
More information is included in the Camp 6 Letter attached below.
"See you at Camp!" ;)

2022-2023 School Supply List
The Lake School Supply List is enclosed in this mailing AND also posted on the Lake Middle School webpage. ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS will be assigned a school-issued Chromebook for the 2022-2023 school year and they will be given a Student Planner (free of charge).
When Will Students Receive Their Chromebooks?
All students will receive their school issued Chromebooks during the first week of school.
SoWashCo Schools is offering families the option of purchasing a Device Protection Plan to protect district-issued devices from accidental damage to the device; damage from fire, flood, natural disasters, or power surges; and theft (with a filed police report).
ANNUAL DEVICE PROTECTION PLAN INFORMATION:
The participation cost for those choosing to enroll in the Device Protection Plan is $20 annually, per device. This is an ANNUAL protection plan where families renew each fall. (Families who waive the Device Protection Plan will be responsible for the full cost of repair or replacement of the device. The district issued device accessories, charging cable, power adapter “brick” and case (for iPad) are not covered by the plan.)
Families who qualify for federal educational benefits, such as free and reduced-price meals, will also be eligible for reduced pricing ($10 annually per device) or free coverage. If families are eligible, the pricing will automatically be calculated at checkout. In addition, families with multiple children will not pay more than $60 per year for Device Protection Plans.
Payment on Device Protection Plans is due upon issuing of the student’s device. The protection fee is non-refundable. Coverage begins upon receipt of the payment and ends at the conclusion of the scheduled school year.
Families can sign up and pay for the device protection plan through the SmartSchoolK12 website.
SoWashCo District Transportation Information
District 833’s Transportation Department will communicate all specific information regarding transportation arrangements directly to you in late August. Initial information will include the bus stop location, stop time and bus route number for both morning and afternoon routings. We ask that you assist our Transportation Liaison and Lake Middle School staff in making sure your student knows his/her bus assignment (bus route number) for both morning and afternoon routes. This makes their experience much more positive and less stressful during the first weeks of the school year. All routes will be posted on the transportation tab of the “Parent Portal.” Additional information can be found on District 833’s webpage at www.sowashco.org under “Services” and click “Transportation.”
Nutrition/Food Service
School breakfasts and lunches will available for students at Lake Middle School. For additional information about Nutrition Services go to the following link: https://www.sowashco.org/services/nutrition to see menus, nutritional improvements that are being made and other important information. Students can bring their own lunch from home if they choose to.
Students will be required to use their PIN numbers this school year. See section under Meal Accounts at the following link MEAL ACCOUNTS on how to access your student's PIN.
Beginning September 2022 breakfast and lunch are no longer free. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) are requiring families to be charged based off eligibility. Families can fill out an Application for Educational Benefits (Free and Reduced-priced Meals) application and if you qualify, your student(s) will be able to eat both breakfast and lunch for free. Please go to the Educational Benefits-Free and Reduced-Price Meals section and click on the Apply Via Schoolcafe red box to start the application process.
