Weekly Happenings at Southeastern Elementary
Principal's Postings
Welcome to the September 4, 2020, edition of Southeastern Scene.
Dear Southeastern Families:
As we transition to our 50/50 Inclusive Hybrid Model, we have so many fun things to share with you as we prepare for next week. Much of this week's message is going to be shared through videos. Please take time to enjoy each short video as a family.
Please access this link with your students for a video tutorial of Southeastern Elementary and some of the safety protocols in place for this academic year.
Please watch these important safety and mitigation videos with your students here.
To our virtual friends, I look forward to seeing you during morning announcements and our enrichment lessons.
Thank you so much for your continued support!
Yours in education,
Mrs. Chastain and Mrs. Monkul

Snack Attack Program returns
SES is pleased to announce the return of the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.
Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.
There is no cost to you or the school. If you are interested in having your student participate in FYAP's Snack Attack or have questions, please contact SES School Counselor Jen Smith at jensmith@hse.k12.in.us. The Snack Attack program will start as soon as we return for face to face instruction.
One-on-One Counselor meeting
If you would like for your student to meet with Mrs. Smith, please sign up for an individual appointment via the Calendly link here.
SEL Zones of Reflection
Last week our SEL enrichment activity was a review of the Zones of Regulation and an introduction to strategies that can be used to help us move through the zones.
The Zones of Regulation uses four colors to help children self-identify how they’re feeling and categorize it based on color. It also helps children better understand their emotions, sensory needs, and thinking patterns. Please access the attachment below for a worksheet you can use with your child(ren) at home.

Transportation
Arrival and Dismissal
In order to keep our students safe as they enter the building, the following procedures have been put into place:
Arrival
- Pull into SES parking lot on the right and form two lanes.
- Once arriving at orange cones, merge into one lane.
- Watch for staff member to motion you to pull forward, and then motion you to stop and put your car in park.
- Watch for staff member to wave students in.
- Students may only exit car onto the sidewalk. Students may NOT exit car on driver's side of the vehicle.
- Parents will need to stay in the car. Staff will assist students out of their cars.
- Students may enter the building at the 9:40 a.m. bell.
Dismissal
- Pull into SES parking lot on the right and form two lanes.
- Once arriving at orange cones, merge into one lane.
- Watch for staff member to motion you to pull forward, and then motion you to stop and put your car in park.
- Please place a piece of paper with your child/children's first and last names visible in the front windshield.
- Students will enter the car from the sidewalk. Students may NOT enter the car on driver's side of vehicle.
- Parents will need to stay in the car. Staff will assist students into their cars.
- Students will be dismissed at 3:15 to the car rider area.
For the first week of school, please email your child(ren)'s teacher and let them know if your student will be a car rider, bus rider, or using alternate bus to attend after school day care.
Please see car rider map below.
Front Office Procedures
Parents, please notify the front OFFICE in regards to absences and late arrivals. You can leave a message on our attendance line by calling (317) 594-4340. Please leave detailed information, including student's first and last names with spelling, teacher's name, grade, and reason for the absence or late arrival. If late arrival, please include approximate time student will be arriving.
Leaving early for appointment
If student needs to leave early for any reason, only family and individuals listed on the student's approved Skyward list can pick up the student. In the student's Skyward account, under the "Family" and "Emergency Contact" tabs, you may list people approved by you to pick up your student. Those individuals MUST show a valid driver's licence when picking up the student. When arriving, please ring the silver button to the immediate left of the glass door closest to the front office. We must limit the number of non-staff inside the building. Please wait inside the vestibule while we get your student for you.
Forgotten Items
If a student forgets an item at home and a parent needs to drop off that item after school has begun, that item may be dropped off in the front office vestibule. There is a table right inside the first set of doors on which you can place the item. Please have student's first and last names, and teacher's name, on the item and we will deliver it to the student.
Dismissal Manager
Southeastern Elementary will again utilize Dismissal Manager for daily dismissal changes. Each family will receive specific login credentials from Dismissal Manager (please watch email for this information. It will not come from Southeastern Elementary, but from Dismissal Manager). If you need to change your student's regular dismissal for that day, you will need to log in to your Dismissal Manager account and make the necessary changes. A list will be generated before the end of the school day with all of the dismissal changes for that day. Dismissal Manager will be available after bus information posts to Skyward accounts next week. For the first week of school, please email your child(ren)'s teacher and let them know if your student will be a car rider, bus rider, or using alternate bus to attend after school day care.
School Fees
Student course fees have been posted and are available for viewing on Skyward Family Access under the Fee Management tab. Fees are due 10/02/2020.
Fees can be paid through eFunds via this link or you can send check or cash in an envelope marked with the student's name to the SES Office. If using eFunds, you will need to enter in the correct amount as eFunds does not pre-populate school fees.
If you have any questions or need to set up payment arrangements, please contact Stephanie Jones at sjjones@hse.k12.in.us
or call 317.594.4340.
Nurses Notes
If your child is joining us in person and has a chronic medical condition that we would need to be aware of, please provide a physician’s statement to Nurse Linda Brown as soon as possible at lmbrown@hse.k12.in.us. It is also recommended that students have a change of clothes in their backpacks to accomodate any health needs.
Also, students are asked to stay home from school if any symptoms of illness are present. Please see below for at-home screening steps:
