Husky Happenings
October 15, 2021
October 25 - Late start day
Dismissal will occur at 4pm.
Masks
It is mandatory for students to wear a mask while in the building. Please be certain your student not only has a mask when they leave each morning BUT ALSO HAS A BACK UP mask in their backpack.
Devious Licks - October challenge
October's challenge is "slap a teacher." Be aware that if a student engages in this challenge, the violation is assault on an employee which carries a consequence up to expulsion.
Some students have continued to try to do damage to our building within our bathrooms. Students who are found to engage in this will be suspended for multiple days with charges.
Please be advised that this behavior is a serious Student Code of Conduct infraction and very possibly, a criminal offense. Potential Student Code of Conduct infractions can include, but are not limited to, theft, unauthorized entry/trespassing and vandalism. This is a serious matter and any student found to be engaging in theft or destruction of school property will receive the most severe consequence response possible under the Student Code of Conduct as well as criminal charges where appropriate and applicable. Student Code of Conduct consequences range from up to 10 days of out of school suspension and a referral for a hearing which could result in a long term suspension or expulsion from the Fulton County School System.
FCS is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environments for all of our students and staff and we very much appreciate you discussing this concern with your student(s).

CMS Cyclist Safety
Parents /guardians of cyclists:
Please add reflector tape to your students backpack and helmets. Additionally, please ensure there are reflectors on their bicycles (i.e. under the seat). It has been reported that on foggy and overcast mornings these cyclists are difficult to see both to pedestrians along the sidewalks and to motorists.
Absence excuses and notifications
Fulton County Schools has implemented an automated system that will inform parents of total number of absences for the year regardless of excused or unexcused. This is to create awareness around absences. You do not need to notify the school when you receive a notification. If you send an excuse for an absence or the school has been made aware of a positive COVID diagnosis/quarantine, the absence will be coded as excused.
Student check out process
STUDENT CHECK OUT 101: IT’S EASY! Most dismissals that occur during the school day are pre-planned and can be a smooth process following these easy steps.
1. Write a note outlining the following –who (full name please) you are checking out, why you are checking out, date and time you are checking out, then sign and give a contact number. Please write legibly. Also, please note that the latest a student should check out is 3:30 pm. This avoids conflict with buses and car pool drivers arriving for dismissal.
2. Your student should bring this note to the front office on the day of the pre-planned early dismissal. The note will be approved and will then serve as a pass out of class at the noted time. Your student is then instructed to report to the front office at your stated time so be sure this accurately represents when you want them to be at the front office.
3. Check out (and in) requires that you complete the QR code at the left front door and then ring the buzzer. We will then send your student out that door as they will have reported to the front office as instructed.
This process will help us to keep instructional time productive and with minimal interruptions.
CMS Memories
We are interested in gathering some information about CMS ‘back in the day’. Reach out using cmsfrontoffice@fultonschools.org and share pictures and stories about when CMS first opened.
Clinic Information
Please send in any necessary medications your student might need this school year. If your student needs an Inhaler, Epi-pen or Benadryl for Asthma, food allergies or insect bites, we especially want those in the clinic or carried by the student. All medications must have a Fulton County Schools Medication form filled out by a parent and signed by a doctor if it is for a prescription med. Also please remember to keep students home if they are not feeling well.
If your student calls you from their cell phone to report that they are not feeling well PLEASE advise them to report to the clinic. If you intend to check them out or bring them over the counter meds, they must be IN THE CLINIC, not in class, in order for them to be assisted.

CMS Media center volunteer sign up
The CMS Media Center really needs your help! Our wonderful new parapro, Jennifer Newman, is only part time and Mrs. Kowalske desperately needs a break for lunch every day! The greatest need for volunteers is during lunch, 12:00-12:45 and Monday and Friday are the preferred days. The 11-2 time slot listed is preferred, but if you can only come for part of the time, please make a note of it in the comments section. We would rather have you come for part of the time than not at all! Notes: the Covid check-in procedure adds a couple minutes to signing in, so please arrive accordingly. Also, if you have not registered as a volunteer, please visit the Fulton County Website and look for the Register as a Volunteer link under the Community tab. Thank you!
