AES 4th Grade, Week 5
Happy Friday!
Dear Parents,
It was great to see so many families last night at our AES Fall Picnic. What a relaxed time to just visit and get to know our families better.
One more week left in the six weeks.... how can that be possible!
Today we held student council elections for the fifth grade offices. The third, fourth, and fifth grades listened to speeches ranging from sincere to very funny and even a few flips! They were good speeches and the children did a great job listening very respectfully. I'm very proud of the good manners they used in the pit this morning. Great job! Our classroom elections will be Monday. Sorry for the confusion! Students will give a short speech (about two minutes or less). After the speeches, we will vote. Students must give a speech to be on the ballot since they have to be able to give us reports about the meetings.
Math class has been fun. We are continuing to reinforce the skills from the first six weeks... decimals and whole numbers... we are figuring out place value, various ways to represent numbers, comparing and ordering numbers, rounding... and having lots of success in this area. All of the work has been made up and will be in the gradebook this weekend.
We completed our placement test for Think Through Math. I encourage you to have your students spend about 15-30 minutes each day on the computer with the math programs from class. The two key programs are: XTRAMATH and THINK THROUGH MATH. I have login information on the fourth grade website. Even 15 minutes a day will help them improve skills in the classroom and develop greater number fluency.
In science, we used the scientific method to save Fred. We will finish this activity on Monday.
One more week to go! Remember that next Friday is an early release day. We will dismiss at 11:45. The following Monday (Oct 5) is a student holiday.
Have a great weekend! Enjoy our extended summer weather!
