Math Updates
In math this week, we reviewed for our Unit 3 assessment on Monday. Then on Tuesday and Wednesday we completed our Unit 3 assessment.
On Thursday we began Unit 4 learning about measurements where we measured to nearest half inch and centimeter.
We ended the week by looking at line plots. We generated measurement data and then represented that data in a line plot.
Building a READING LIFE
In Reading this week, we continued to read mysteries through our read aloud, independent reading, and in book clubs. We learned about a common characteristic of mysteries known as the "red herring" a false clue devised by the author to throw readers and detectives off the right track. We also focused on how to find hidden clues in our mysteries along with reading closely because our texts will signal us when to slow down and also when to speed quickly through the pages!
Word Study
Word Study tests will be on Friday, November 30th.
Monday nights- Students are to sort their words and record them in their notebooks. They are to also record their discovery or rule for the week.
Tuesday and Wednesday nights- Students should sort their words and read them as they sort. They can practice writing them on paper, whiteboards, or typing them. NO WRITTEN homework is required on these nights.
Thursday nights- Students are to ask an adult to quiz them on their words. They write the headers and then record the words as they are called out. The adult should use the notebook to correct the sort and ask the student to practice any words that were spelled incorrectly. This can be done on the back of the homework sheet. This paper should then be returned to school Friday morning.
Friday- there will be a test given
Writing long & strong
This week in Writing, we continued exploring poetry!
We learned how to successfully write a cinquain poem, haiku, and also a limerick. The children had fun putting their creative, poet skills to the test and sharing their poems with one another. We will continue our poetry throughout the rest of November (which is flying!)

Social Studies
This week in Social Studies we started our Government Unit. We reviewed and discussed the reason we have rules and laws, what our government does, and how our local government works. We started to identify the three branches of government- judicial, executive, and legislative. We will continue to relate each of the government branches to our community, state, and country.
