Greetings Simpson Families,

It is so hard to believe that the school year is almost over! It seems that time has just flown by so quickly. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to work with the students, staff, and families of Simpson Elementary. Our school is definitely a sweet place to work and play. A special thank you also goes to our 2021-22 PTA Executive Board, Liz Dunn (Co-President), Dana Zamuel (Co-President), Lauren Forster (Treasurer), and Katie Berrigan (Secretary) for always going the extra mile to support our kids. Thank you for your dedicated time, service, and commitment to our students. In addition, I want to also thank our entire School Council Committee, our Chair, Eric Heintz, Vice-Chair, Regina Zabel, GCPS Board Member, Dr. Mary Kay Murphy, and secretary, Traci Douglas for volunteering every month to provide feedback and ideas to better support our school community. On behalf of the entire school, we thank you for all of your hard work and leadership! To end, I hope that you all enjoy the last few weeks of school, and just know that I am always just a phone call away if you need anything throughout the summer.

Proud to be your principal,

Dr. Taffeta Connery

Honoring our Simpson Elementary Retirees

What do you say to the educator who has given their heart and soul to so many students over the years? How many words can fill up a page to let you know how much you care? Where would we be in a world without staff members who lead with their hearts? Just the words simply to say, "thank you" just does not seem enough! Simpson Elementary, please join me in honoring our dedicated and outstanding teacher leaders for their years of service in education:

CDC Updates Guidance-School Masking

On Friday, 2/25/22, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance and the prevention steps that should be taken based on the spread of COVID-19 in communities. As part of the changes announced today, the CDC is dropping its recommendation for universal school masking and instead will recommend masking only in communities at a high level of risk.

According to the CDC, Gwinnett County is currently in a “Low” level of community spread. At this level, individuals are encouraged to stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and to get tested if they have symptoms.

In light of this updated guidance and Gwinnett County’s designation in the “Low” level of community spread, Gwinnett County Public Schools will transition from requiring masks to strongly recommending the use of masks in its facilities.

In the coming days, school district leaders will be reviewing and updating quarantine and isolation procedures to account for these changes.

This is the last Star News for the 2021-2022 School Year. We will keep families updated if new information is released from the district via school messenger.

Kindergarten and 1st grade students will be placed in small groups of 2-4 students. Parent volunteers will lead a group around to the centers. Peer leaders in 4th and 5th grade will be at each center to explain and demonstrate their center. We also need a few volunteers to help with the student water coolers and popsicles.
